Shoppers worldwide unleashed their buying power during Amazon’s yearly Prime Day extravaganza in 2024, propelling total spending to a record-breaking $14.2 billion over the two-day event. This staggering figure represents an impressive 11% rise compared to the previous year, according to data collected by Adobe Analytics.
A Two-Day Shopping Frenzy
The enthusiasm for bargains wasn’t limited to just a single day. Both days of Prime Day witnessed a surge in online shopping activity, with U.S. consumers contributing a whopping $7 billion each day. While Adobe Analytics doesn’t directly track Amazon’s internal sales figures, their data analyzes online transactions and visits to retail websites across the United States, providing a strong indicator of the high demand for Prime Day deals.
Mobile Shopping Takes the Lead: Convenience Wins
An important trend that emerged during Prime Day 2024 was the dramatic rise in mobile shopping. Nearly half (49.2%) of all online purchases were made on smartphones and tablets, marking a substantial 18.6% increase compared to 2023. This shift highlights the growing importance of mobile devices for online shoppers. Convenience and ease of use are becoming increasingly important factors, allowing parrons to browse and buy products from anywhere at any time.
Amazon Celebrates Its Biggest Prime Day Ever: Millions Join the Shopping Party
Although Amazon refrained from disclosing their exact sales figures, they confirmed that Prime Day 2024 was their biggest event ever. Record-breaking sales and the highest number of items sold compared to previous years solidified this achievement. The weeks leading up to the event saw a significant boost in new Prime member sign-ups, further fueling the event’s success. For a monthly fee of $14.99 or an annual fee of $139, Amazon Prime offers a range of benefits that entice shoppers, including free same-day or two-day delivery, access to the Prime Video streaming service, and Prime Music.
Doug Herrington, the CEO of Amazon’s Worldwide Stores, expressed his sincere appreciation for the event’s remarkable success. He acknowledged the contributions of two key groups: the millions of Prime members worldwide who flocked to Amazon to take advantage of the deals, and the tireless efforts of Amazon’s employees, delivery partners, and sellers who made the entire operation run smoothly. Herrington attributed Prime Day’s achievement to this collaborative effort between all parties involved.

According to Vivek Pandya, lead analyst at Adobe Digital Insights, these categories experienced “low single-digit growth” in the first half of 2024.
