Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra May Feature an Under-Display Camera – But Is It Real?

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is rumored to introduce an under-display camera (UDC), but conflicting leaks raise doubts about its feasibility. While this potential upgrade could enhance the phone’s design, concerns about image quality remain a major hurdle. Here’s what we know so far.

Conflicting Leaks: UDC in Testing or Just a Concept?

Prominent leaker Kro_roe claims that Samsung is actively testing an under-display camera for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, focusing on improving image clarity. However, another leaker, PandaFlashPro, disputes this, asserting that Samsung is unlikely to implement UDC technology in the Galaxy S Ultra series for at least two more years due to performance limitations.

Samsung has previously incorporated UDC technology in its Galaxy Z Fold series, but the results have been mixed. The 4MP under-display camera in the Galaxy Z Fold 6, for instance, is criticized for its lower image quality due to pixel layers obstructing the sensor.

Current Galaxy S Series Camera Design

The Galaxy S25 series still relies on punch-hole front cameras, maintaining better image quality without sacrificing display clarity. An under-display camera would eliminate the visible cutout, offering a seamless screen experience. However, this comes at the cost of reduced image sharpness, a drawback Samsung may not be willing to accept for its premium S series.

The Trade-Off: Camera Quality vs. Futuristic Design

Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra lineup is renowned for its exceptional camera capabilities, making it unlikely that the company would compromise quality for aesthetics. While testing under-display camera technology aligns with Samsung’s long-term innovation strategy, integrating it into the Galaxy S26 Ultra remains uncertain.

Should You Wait for the Galaxy S26 Ultra?

If an under-display camera is your primary reason to upgrade, it may not be worth waiting for the Galaxy S26 Ultra just yet. The Galaxy S25 Ultra already offers significant hardware and software enhancements, including a 50MP ultrawide camera, AI-powered features like Now Brief summaries, and Audio Eraser for improved sound clarity.

However, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is rumored to bring other major upgrades, such as:

  • A silicon-carbon battery for higher capacity and efficiency
  • An upgraded high-frequency chipset
  • A groundbreaking 324MP main camera

Final Thoughts

While an under-display camera in the Galaxy S26 Ultra would be a revolutionary step, its implementation remains uncertain. Samsung is likely testing the technology, but whether it meets the brand’s high standards for camera performance is another question. For now, Galaxy S fans can look forward to other significant improvements that make waiting for the S26 Ultra worthwhile.

Stay tuned for more updates on Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone!
