Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro May Steal The Spotlight With A Better Camera Than The Ultra

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series has long followed a familiar formula: the standard model for mainstream users, the Plus version for those wanting a bigger screen, and the Ultra for those seeking the absolute best features. However, that formula could be changing in a major way.

According to recent leaks, Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce a brand-new Galaxy S27 Pro model, and surprisingly, it may offer a camera advantage over the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra. While the Ultra is expected to remain Samsung’s most premium smartphone, the Pro variant could become the go-to device for photography enthusiasts thanks to an innovative new telephoto camera system.

A New Telephoto Camera Could Change Everything

The biggest talking point surrounding the Galaxy S27 Pro is Samsung’s rumored adoption of a new telephoto camera technology called All Lenses on Prism (ALoP).

Unlike traditional periscope zoom cameras that place lenses behind a prism, Samsung’s ALoP design reportedly positions the lens array directly on top of the prism. This unique arrangement allows the camera module to remain more compact while also capturing more light.

Leaks suggest the Galaxy S27 Pro could feature a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with approximately 3.5x optical zoom. While that zoom range may seem less impressive than the rumored 5x optical zoom expected on the Galaxy S27 Ultra, the real advantage lies elsewhere.

The ALoP system is expected to deliver brighter and sharper zoomed images, particularly in low-light conditions. For everyday photography, where users often capture portraits, indoor scenes, and nighttime shots, this could make the Galaxy S27 Pro a more practical choice than the Ultra.

Shared 200MP Flagship Camera Hardware

Another interesting detail from the leaks is that Samsung may equip both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra with nearly identical primary camera hardware.

Reports suggest both devices could feature Samsung’s next-generation 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP6 sensor, paired with similar ultrawide cameras. This would mean image quality from the main camera could remain largely consistent across both models.

If that happens, the telephoto camera system may become the key differentiator. Users looking for extreme zoom capabilities could still prefer the Ultra, while those prioritizing low-light photography and day-to-day camera performance may find the Pro model more appealing.

This strategy would represent a significant shift from Samsung’s traditional approach, where the Ultra clearly dominated every camera category.

The End Of The ‘Plus’ Era?

Industry reports indicate that Samsung could be preparing to replace its long-running “Plus” branding with the new Pro model.

The Galaxy S27 Pro is rumored to feature a display between 6.47 and 6.5 inches, positioning it comfortably between the standard Galaxy S27 and the larger Ultra. More importantly, it may inherit several premium features that were previously exclusive to the Ultra lineup.

By introducing a Pro variant, Samsung could simplify its flagship portfolio while giving consumers access to flagship-grade performance and cameras without requiring them to buy the largest and most expensive device in the lineup.

However, one notable Ultra-exclusive feature is expected to remain untouched: the S Pen. Leaks suggest stylus support will continue to be reserved for the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Samsung’s Camera Philosophy Is Evolving

The Galaxy S27 series could also signal a broader change in Samsung’s camera strategy.

Several reports claim Samsung may eliminate the dedicated 3x telephoto camera from the Ultra model altogether. Instead, the company could increasingly rely on advanced sensor-cropping techniques powered by larger and more capable image sensors.

This trend has already gained traction across the smartphone industry, where manufacturers are focusing on fewer but higher-quality sensors rather than packing devices with multiple specialized cameras.

The result could be cleaner camera modules, improved image quality, and more internal space for other hardware upgrades.

A New Battle Within Samsung’s Own Lineup

If the leaks prove accurate, the Galaxy S27 Pro may emerge as one of Samsung’s most exciting smartphones in years. Rather than simply acting as a middle-ground device, it could carve out its own identity by delivering superior low-light zoom photography and flagship-level camera hardware.

With a shared 200MP main sensor, a potentially groundbreaking ALoP telephoto camera, and a premium design, the Galaxy S27 Pro could challenge the assumption that the Ultra model is always the best choice. As Samsung continues to refine its flagship strategy, the most interesting competition in 2027 may not come from rival brands—but from within Samsung’s own lineup.
