India’s artificial intelligence race is heating up, and Sarvam AI is quickly emerging as one of its biggest success stories. The Bengaluru-based startup is set to raise $74 million (around ₹698 crore) in an extension of its Series B funding round, with global AI chip giant NVIDIA leading the investment. The move not only reinforces investor confidence in Sarvam’s vision but also highlights India’s growing importance in the global AI landscape.
The latest funding follows closely on the heels of Sarvam AI’s $234 million Series B round led by HCL Technologies, demonstrating that investors are doubling down on companies building AI infrastructure and language models tailored for India. As enterprises and governments increasingly look for AI solutions designed around local languages and business needs, Sarvam appears well-positioned to capitalize on this demand.

NVIDIA Doubles Down on India’s AI Future
The biggest headline from this funding round is NVIDIA’s participation. The company, whose graphics processing units (GPUs) power much of the world’s AI revolution, will invest ₹238 crore (approximately $25 million). NVIDIA’s backing carries significance far beyond the size of the investment. It reflects confidence in Sarvam AI’s technology, product roadmap, and long-term potential.
Joining NVIDIA is Glade Brook Capital, investing around ₹190.3 crore ($20 million). Existing investor Gaja Capital will contribute another ₹95 crore, while investor duo Sanjay Kalra and Jyotika Kapoor will invest ₹50 crore. The funding round also includes participation from several angel investors and family offices, including Vrijesh Agarwal, KJ Trust, and AL Trust.
Sarvam AI’s board has already approved the issuance of 20,244 Series B preference shares and seven equity shares at an issue price of ₹3,44,570 per share, enabling the company to raise approximately ₹698 crore.
A Billion-Dollar AI Company Gets Bigger
Following the completion of the funding round, Sarvam AI’s valuation is expected to reach approximately ₹14,342 crore ($1.51 billion) on a post-money basis. That places the startup firmly among India’s AI unicorns at a time when investor interest in artificial intelligence continues to accelerate worldwide.
The fresh capital will also alter the company’s ownership structure. NVIDIA will own 1.66% of Sarvam AI after the allotment, while Glade Brook Capital will hold 1.33%. HCL Technologies, despite some dilution, will remain a significant shareholder with a 9.95% stake.
Importantly, Sarvam’s founders will continue to retain a commanding 38.44% ownership, allowing them to maintain strategic control while benefiting from the financial and technological support of global investors.
Building AI for India
Unlike many AI startups focused solely on global markets, Sarvam AI has carved out a niche by developing AI models optimized for Indian languages and enterprise use cases. The company has consistently emphasized creating foundation models that understand India’s linguistic diversity while addressing local business challenges.
Its recently launched enterprise platform enables developers, researchers, and organizations to build, fine-tune, and deploy large language models for Indian applications. This focus aligns closely with India’s broader ambition of becoming an AI powerhouse capable of developing indigenous technologies rather than relying entirely on imported models.
As governments, banks, healthcare providers, and educational institutions increasingly adopt generative AI, localized models capable of understanding regional languages and cultural context are becoming a strategic advantage.
More Than Just Funding
The investment isn’t the only recent milestone for Sarvam AI. The company has also strengthened its leadership by appointing Devendra Singh Chaplot, a founding member of Thinking Machines Lab, as an advisor. His expertise is expected to help accelerate Sarvam’s research and product development as competition intensifies in the AI sector.
The combination of fresh capital, strategic partnerships, and experienced leadership gives Sarvam additional momentum as it expands its AI capabilities.

India’s AI Moment
Sarvam AI’s latest fundraising reflects a broader shift occurring across India’s technology ecosystem. Investors are increasingly backing startups that build foundational AI technologies rather than simply creating applications on top of existing models. Global companies like NVIDIA are also recognizing that India represents not only a massive market for AI but also a significant source of innovation and talent.
As AI becomes central to digital transformation across industries, companies capable of building scalable, multilingual, and enterprise-ready AI platforms are likely to attract sustained investment. Sarvam AI appears to be positioning itself at the center of that opportunity.
With a valuation exceeding $1.5 billion, support from some of the world’s most influential technology investors, and a clear focus on solving uniquely Indian AI challenges, Sarvam AI is rapidly becoming one of the country’s most important technology companies. Its latest funding round is more than another investment announcement—it is a strong vote of confidence in India’s ability to build globally competitive artificial intelligence from the ground up.
