India’s deeptech ecosystem is steadily building momentum, and Sensesemi Technologies Private Limited is emerging as one of the most promising new names in semiconductor design. The DLI-approved fabless startup has raised ₹25 crore (approximately $2.75 million) in a seed funding round led by Piper Serica, with participation from LetsVenture Angel Fund, Sun Icon Ventures, MyAsiaVC, Whitepine Investments, Jain Oncor, and notable angel investors including REAN Foundation, Niraj Shah, and Deepak Khanna.

The fresh capital comes at a crucial moment as demand surges globally for intelligent, low-power edge computing, particularly in sectors where real-time decision-making, security, and energy efficiency are non-negotiable.

Building Intelligence Directly at the Edge

Founded to address the limitations of conventional edge-AI systems, Sensesemi is developing integrated edge-AI silicon that brings together AI inferencing, wireless mesh connectivity, and precision analogue signal processing on a single chip. This unified approach targets use cases where sending data to the cloud is either too slow, too power-hungry, or too risky.

Industries such as industrial IoT, automotive electronics, and medical devices increasingly require on-device intelligence that works instantly, securely, and reliably—often in harsh or resource-constrained environments. Sensesemi’s chips are designed to meet exactly those needs, enabling smarter devices that can operate for years on small batteries while maintaining high performance.

A Vertical Integration Strategy to Cut Complexity

Unlike most edge-AI solutions that rely on multiple components for compute, connectivity, and sensing, Sensesemi is taking a vertically integrated approach. By combining these capabilities into a single silicon platform, the company aims to dramatically reduce system complexity, power consumption, and overall cost.

This architecture allows sensor data to be processed locally with minimal latency, while also keeping power and size requirements in check—critical factors in industrial sensors, medical implants, and automotive systems where space and energy are limited.

“Current edge AI solutions force customers to make difficult trade-offs between performance and power efficiency,” said Vijay Muktamath, Founder and CEO of Sensesemi. “By vertically integrating these functions on one chip, we can simplify system design, reduce power usage, and ensure secure, reliable supply chains—key concerns for our customers.”

Analog AI: Rethinking Power Efficiency from the Ground Up

One of Sensesemi’s most ambitious bets is its work on an analog AI inference processor, a technology designed to push power consumption down to levels that digital processors struggle to achieve. This is especially relevant for battery-operated and implantable medical devices, where replacing or recharging batteries may be difficult or even impossible.

“Applications like medical implants and industrial sensors operate under extreme constraints on power, size, and cost,” explained Namit Varma, Co-Founder and Head of Engineering. “Analog-domain AI inferencing allows us to unlock multi-year battery life without compromising on intelligence or reliability.”

If successful, this approach could open entirely new categories of always-on intelligent devices, particularly in healthcare and long-term monitoring applications.

Targeting a Multi-Billion-Unit Global Market

Sensesemi is building for a market that is expanding rapidly. The global edge-AI chipset market is expected to reach 5–7 billion units annually by 2030, driven by large-scale industrial deployments and the growing adoption of smart medical and automotive systems.

The startup’s chips are being designed for high-growth use cases including:

  • Industrial IoT: predictive maintenance, environmental monitoring, and vision-based quality inspection

  • Automotive systems: multi-sensor ADAS, driver monitoring, and predictive diagnostics

  • Medical devices: cardiac monitoring, neurostimulation, and smart drug delivery

By addressing all three sectors with a common silicon platform, Sensesemi aims to achieve scale while maintaining strong differentiation.

Funding to Accelerate Product Development and Partnerships

The newly raised capital will be used to advance chip tape-outs, develop reference designs, expand the engineering team, and build strategic partnerships with device manufacturers and ODMs. These steps are critical for moving from silicon development to commercial adoption at scale.

Backing the company, Abhay Agarwal, Founder and Fund Manager at Piper Serica, highlighted the strategic importance of chip design. “India’s semiconductor market is expected to cross $100 billion by 2030. Companies that own strong design IP and system-on-chip capabilities will create enduring value. Sensesemi is building exactly that—indigenous, ultra-low-power AI-enabled SoCs that strengthen India’s technology self-reliance.”

A Small Round with Big Implications

While the funding round may be modest in size, its implications are significant. With a focus on deep IP, power efficiency, and vertical integration, Sensesemi is positioning itself at the intersection of India’s semiconductor ambitions and the global shift toward intelligent edge computing. If execution matches vision, this could be one of the foundational chip companies to emerge from India’s new silicon era.
