SpaceX Share Decline Pushes Elon Musk’s Wealth Below $700 Billion

Elon Musk’s fortune has fallen below the $700 billion mark after SpaceX shares extended their steep decline, wiping out tens of billions of dollars from his paper wealth. The drop follows a brutal slide in SpaceX stock from its June peak, ending Musk’s brief run as the world’s first trillionaire in market-value terms.

SpaceX Stock Slide Deepens:

According to recent market reports, SpaceX shares fell 4.8% on Monday to around $109.50, extending their decline to nearly 50% from the all-time high of $225.64 reached on June 16. That slump has erased a huge chunk of value from the company in just over a month and has become the main reason Musk’s net worth has slipped so sharply.

The latest drop pushed Musk’s wealth down by about $29.5 billion in a single day, taking his net worth to roughly $695.7 billion. He owns about 4.8 billion SpaceX shares along with another 350 million stock options, so every move in the company’s share price has an outsized effect on his fortune.

Why The Wealth Drop Matters:

Only a few weeks prior, SpaceX’s IPO had pushed Musk’s wealth to all-time highs, thus the company’s drop is significant. His fake wealth reportedly reached $1.45 trillion at its height, but the most recent decline has erased between $650 billion and $700 billion from that peak.

The stock’s reversal additionally shows how quickly wealth based on private-market valuations can decrease in response to shifts in investor attitude. According to reports, the company was trading much above its IPO price prior to the sell-off picking up speed, and the most recent decline has now brought it much closer to the realities of the public market.

Musk Remains The Richest Person:

Even after the drop, Musk remains far ahead of other billionaires. Forbes-based reporting says his net worth is still well above Larry Page and Sergey Brin, keeping him comfortably at the top of the global wealth rankings.

Musk himself recently joked about the decline, calling himself a “former trillionaire,” a remark that quickly spread online as the SpaceX and Tesla selloff continued. That phrase has since become a shorthand for the sudden erosion in his paper wealth.

What Is Driving The Decline:

Market watchers say the fall in SpaceX shares has been driven by a mix of investor profit-taking, valuation concerns and a reassessment of growth expectations after the company’s blockbuster listing. Some analysts also point to the broader cooling in enthusiasm after the initial IPO excitement faded.

Tesla weakness has added to the pressure on Musk’s net worth, but SpaceX has been the bigger factor in the latest round of losses. With the stock down sharply from its June high, the wealth hit has been large enough to push Musk below a symbolic level that had defined his rise over the past year.
