Telegram-Linked Crypto Toncoin Drops $2.7 Billion After CEO Pavel Durov’s Arrest

Toncoin, a cryptocurrency linked to the messaging platform Telegram, experienced a dramatic plunge in value following the arrest of Telegram’s CEO and co-founder, Pavel Durov. The market capitalization of Toncoin shrank by $2.7 billion, marking a significant setback for the crypto, which has been one of the key competitors in the digital currency market.

Toncoin Market Crash Tied to Durov’s Arrest:

The sudden decline in Toncoin’s value is directly related to Pavel Durov’s apprehension by French authorities at the Le Bourget airport, which is close to Paris. Durov, a person well-known in the IT community for founding Telegram, was detained because of accusations regarding the way his platform was run. Durov was accused by French authorities, especially the OMFIN, an authority that deals with stopping violence against minors, of not doing enough to stop criminal organizations from misusing Telegram.

Toncoin’s price crashed by almost 20% as reports of Durov’s imprisonment spread, shaking the cryptocurrency market. Toncoin, which was trading at $5.69 as of Monday AM in Singapore, lost around $2.7 billion in value as a result of the market’s reaction to the alarmed investors. Experts disagree about the possible effects on Telegram and the larger cryptocurrency ecosystem, so even with the short-term losses, the long-term effects on cryptocurrencies are still unknown.

The Close Ties Between Toncoin and Telegram:

Telegram’s blockchain network, TON (The Open Network), is closely related to Toncoin, which was formerly known as Gram. Even though Telegram has disassociated itself from cryptocurrencies, there is still a lot of speculation and interest in investing because of this relationship. Toncoin has drawn a lot of attention lately, especially after Pantera Capital, a significant American investment firm, declared its purchase of Toncoin to be the largest in its portfolio. This increased interest serves as another evidence of how Durov’s arrest has affected the token’s performance on the market.

Co-founder of the hedge firm DACM Richard Galvin emphasized how Toncoin’s success was linked to Telegram’s large user base. The main attraction of the cryptocurrency was its ability to be easily integrated with Telegram’s services, taking advantage of the platform’s wide user base to encourage uptake. However, this vision is clouded by Durov’s legal issues, with industry analysts warning that any damage to Telegram’s reputation might harm Toncoin’s chances.

Telegram has not back down in the face of criticism. The company said that Durov has “nothing to hide” and called the charges against him baseless in a statement released on the platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter. Telegram also said that it complies with EU laws and expressed frustration with the state of affairs. However, it is still too early to determine the full effect of these events on the company and the cryptocurrency that it is associated with.

What Lies Ahead for Toncoin and Telegram?

Toncoin is still one of the biggest names in the cryptocurrency space, with a market capitalization that is presently at $14.39 billion. But the latest event has sparked concerns about the direction both Telegram and the cryptocurrency may take in the future. Although there was a sharp reaction in the market almost after, what happens in the long run will mostly rely on how Durov’s legal problems are resolved and how well Telegram is regarded by investors and users.

The platform Telegram, which has its headquarters in Dubai and was established by Durov, a native of Russia, has big plans for expansion. The firm wants to reach one billion users by the end of the year, but the current events may make that goal more difficult to achieve. Even yet, the platform continues to be a major player in the social media space, competing with giants like Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp.

There is still uncertainty in the issue as people in the IT and cryptocurrency worlds continue to debate the broader consequences of Durov’s detention. For the time being, Telegram users and Toncoin investors are keeping a close eye on developments that could affect the future of one of the most talked-about cryptocurrencies on the market.

This particular occurrence highlights the intrinsic instability of the cryptocurrency market and the significant impact that prominent individuals such as Pavel Durov can have on digital assets. In the upcoming months, it will be crucial to watch whether Toncoin can overcome this setback or experience additional drops.

How to Increase Gas Mileage: Small Driving Changes That Save Big at the Pump

Fuel prices may rise and fall, but one thing stays constant: drivers want to make every litre go further. The good news is that improving gas mileage does not always require buying a new hybrid or changing cars altogether. A few disciplined habits behind the wheel, along with basic maintenance, can make a noticeable difference over time. For most drivers, the biggest gains come from reducing waste. That means less aggressive acceleration, fewer unnecessary trips, correctly inflated tyres and a car that is mechanically healthy. Smooth Driving Uses Less Fuel The quickest way to burn more fuel is to drive as if every traffic light is a starting grid. Hard acceleration, sharp braking and sudden changes in speed force the engine to work harder and consume more petrol. A smoother approach works better. Accelerate gradually, maintain a steady speed where possible and look ahead to anticipate traffic. If a red light is visible in the distance, easing off the accelerator early is usually more efficient than rushing forward and braking hard at the last moment. Speed also matters. As speeds rise, aerodynamic drag increases and the engine needs more energy to keep the vehicle moving. On highways, staying within a sensible cruising range rather than constantly pushing at high speeds can help reduce fuel consumption. Check Tyre Pressure Regularly Tyres are easy to ignore until something goes wrong, but they play a major role in fuel economy. Under-inflated tyres create more rolling resistance, which means the engine has to use more fuel just to move the car forward. Drivers should check tyre pressure at least once a month, preferably when the tyres are cold. The correct pressure is usually listed on the driver-side door frame or in the owner’s manual. It is important not to use the maximum pressure printed on the tyre sidewall as a target. That figure is not necessarily the recommended setting for the vehicle. The US Environmental Protection Agency notes that under-inflation reduces fuel economy, increases tyre wear and adds to emissions. Stop Carrying Extra Weight A car is not a storage room. Heavy items in the boot may seem harmless, but extra weight makes the engine work harder, especially in city traffic where the vehicle is constantly stopping and starting. Clear out unnecessary tools, boxes, sports gear and other items that have been sitting in the car for weeks. Roof racks and cargo boxes can also hurt mileage by increasing aerodynamic drag. If they are not being used, remove them. This is especially relevant for drivers who spend most of their time on highways, where wind resistance becomes a bigger factor. Keep Up With Maintenance A well-maintained vehicle is usually a more fuel-efficient vehicle. Delayed oil changes, worn spark plugs, clogged air filters, dragging brakes and poor wheel alignment can all affect how efficiently a car runs. Following the manufacturer’s service schedule is the safest route. Use the recommended engine oil grade and get warning lights checked instead of ignoring them. A sudden drop in mileage can be an early sign that something needs attention. The EPA advises motorists to follow their vehicle maintenance schedule and use the recommended motor oil to support better fuel efficiency and safer operation. Combine Trips and Avoid Long Idling Short trips can be surprisingly fuel-hungry because the engine has not had enough time to reach its most efficient operating temperature. Combining errands into one planned route can reduce cold starts, unnecessary kilometres and fuel use. Idling is another quiet fuel drain. If you are waiting for an extended period, switching off the engine can be more sensible than leaving it running. Modern cars do not need long warm-up periods before driving. Start, settle for a few seconds and drive gently. The Bottom Line Better gas mileage is less about one miracle trick and more about consistent habits. Drive smoothly, maintain the right tyre pressure, remove excess weight and service the car on time. These small changes may not feel dramatic on a single trip, but over months of commuting, school runs and highway drives, they can add up to real savings.
