Emoji are pictograms, logograms, ideograms, or smileys embedded in the text and used in electronic messages and web pages. Emoji’s primary function is to fill in emotional cues that would otherwise be missing from the typed conversation. Emoji examples include,😂, 😃, 🧘🏻♂️, 🌍, 🌦️, 🍞, 🚗, 📞, 🎉. Emoji come in various forms, including facial expressions, everyday objects, locations and weather, and animals.
Emoji are similar to emoticons in appearance, but they are pictures rather than typographic approximations; the term “emoji” in the strict sense refers to pictures that can be represented as encoded characters, but it is sometimes applied to messaging stickers by extension. The word emoji, which initially meant pictograph, is derived from the Japanese e + Moji; the striking similarity to the English words emotion and emoticon is entirely coincidental.
Last week, Apple released iOS 15.4, which included several new features such as mask-friendly Face ID, a general-neutral voice for Siri, Universal Control, and 37 new emoji. The updated emoji library, first seen in Unicode last year, includes seven more smileys and some particular objects.
