Toyota Motor Europe (TME) has recorded its highest-ever sales for the January–September 2025 period, delivering 930,452 vehicles, marking a 2% year-on-year increase. Both Toyota and Lexus brands achieved record volumes, underscoring their growing strength in a highly competitive European market.
With this performance, Toyota maintained its position as Europe’s second best-selling car brand, while its electrified lineup continued to gain momentum, now accounting for 77% of TME’s total sales mix, up 5% from last year.
Till Conrad, Executive Vice President of Sales at Toyota Motor Europe, said the achievement reflected “continued strong customer demand for the Toyota and Lexus multi-pathway line-up which meets the diverse needs of the European region.”
Electrification Leads the Charge
TME’s electrified portfolio remains the backbone of its success, with 716,990 electrified vehicles sold, representing a 5% increase year-on-year. The hybrid electric segment continues to dominate, but the sharp growth in battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models signals a clear acceleration of Toyota’s electrification journey.
-
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): +41% year-on-year
-
Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs): +209% year-on-year
In Western Europe, 80% of Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold were electrified, while Eastern Europe reached 58%.
Toyota Brand: Consistent Growth and Market Leadership
Toyota sold 865,401 vehicles, up 2% year-on-year, cementing its position as Europe’s number two brand. The Yaris Cross emerged as the best-selling car in the B-SUV segment with an 11% market share and 151,494 units sold. Other top performers included the Yaris, Corolla range, Toyota C-HR, RAV4, and Aygo X.
Toyota’s electrified sales rose by 5%, reaching 655,556 units, with significant growth in plug-in hybrids particularly the new Toyota C-HR Plug-in Hybrid, which drove a 292% surge in the segment.
Toyota Professional: Commercial Success Accelerates
The brand’s light commercial division, Toyota Professional, also reported strong results. Sales rose 21% year-on-year to 117,410 units, driven by demand for the Hilux, which grew 20%, and the expanding Proace Family range. The launch of the PROACE Max in the heavy-duty segment and rising adoption of electric variants boosted the commercial lineup’s performance across Europe.
Lexus: Electrified Luxury Reaches Record Heights
Luxury arm Lexus achieved its own record, selling 65,051 vehicles, a 2% increase year-on-year, with electrified models representing a staggering 94% of total sales. In Western Europe, Lexus’ electrified mix reached 100%.
The new Lexus LBX Hybrid stood out as a star performer with 21,162 units sold, marking a 31% growth year-on-year. The Lexus NX, offered in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, followed closely with 19,336 units, while the UX and RX models maintained steady momentum.
Toyota’s Multi-Pathway Strategy Pays Off
TME’s strong showing reinforces its multi-pathway approach offering a mix of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and fuel-cell technologies tailored to regional needs. This diversified strategy continues to resonate with European customers, allowing Toyota and Lexus to balance sustainability goals with practical mobility options.
As Toyota Motor Europe closes out the year, the company’s focus remains clear: expanding electrification, strengthening its commercial lineup, and deepening local production efforts to meet the region’s fast-evolving mobility landscape.
