True Value, a Chicago-based hardware wholesaler with a 75-year history, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company is going bankrupt because it agreed to sell itself to its competitor, Do It Best. Do It Best offered to pay $153 million in cash for True Value. They also agreed to take on True Value’s debts and contracts for an additional $45 million.
