Authorities identified the suspect as Michael David Booth, 39, a popular crafting influencer with more than half a million YouTube subscribers and hundreds of thousands of followers on Facebook and Instagram. Booth, known for his family-friendly DIY craft tutorials, was taken into custody in Prospect, a quiet suburb of Louisville, after police linked him to disturbing images shared on the messaging app Kik.

According to WAVE News, investigators allege Booth distributed explicit photos involving minors through his Kik account between August 5 and August 7 of this year.

Digital Trail Leads Investigators to Booth’s Home

Court documents reveal that Booth allegedly possessed six explicit photos depicting minors — three involving children under 12 and three showing teenagers. Authorities said the images of younger children were shared at least 12 times, while those of teens were distributed at least 15 times.

During the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant on Booth’s Kik account. They reportedly found two selfie-style photos of Booth within the account, which police said confirmed his identity as the account holder.

Further evidence emerged when a subpoena for the IP address used to send the illegal content traced directly to Booth’s residence in Prospect. The discovery prompted a raid at his home, where Booth was arrested without incident.

Community Stunned by Arrest

News of Booth’s arrest sent shockwaves through his suburban neighborhood. Residents described the area as typically calm and family-oriented, making the sudden police activity all the more unsettling.

Neighbors expressed disbelief that someone known for cheerful crafting tutorials and creative workshops could be involved in such serious allegations. Booth was often seen filming or preparing decorations for his channel, which focused on do-it-yourself paper crafts, vinyl projects, and personalized gifts.

His arrest has left neighbors and viewers struggling to reconcile the online persona of Mr. Crafty Pants with the disturbing accusations detailed by authorities.

Court Appearance and Restrictions

Booth appeared before a judge in Jefferson County District Court on Thursday morning, where he was formally charged with 20 counts of distributing material portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

His bond was set at $100,000 cash, and the court imposed strict conditions — including a ban on Internet access, social media use, and contact with minors. Booth entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

If convicted, he could face a lengthy prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender.

From YouTube Fame to Criminal Charges

Before his arrest, Booth was regarded as a rising figure in the crafting community. His channel, Mr. Crafty Pants, attracted a devoted audience for its upbeat tutorials and approachable style. Viewers often described his projects as fun, family-oriented activities, and Booth frequently collaborated with craft brands and small businesses.

His online presence projected positivity and creativity, making the charges even more jarring for fans. Since news of his arrest broke, Booth’s social media pages have been taken offline or restricted from public view.

Fans flooded online forums and comment sections with reactions ranging from shock to anger. Many expressed heartbreak that someone they admired for years could face such severe allegations. Others pointed to the case as a reminder of the dangers of idealizing social media personalities.

Law Enforcement Continues Investigation

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and are working to determine whether Booth may have distributed additional illicit content or had contact with other individuals involved in child exploitation networks.

The case has also renewed scrutiny of Kik, a platform often criticized for its role in enabling the spread of illegal material. Law enforcement officials have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about the digital platforms children use, citing the increasing number of cases involving encrypted messaging apps.
