Audi has updated its flagship model and only supercar the R8 V10 for the model year 2019. The new R8, in coupe and spyder form, gets a restyled front fascia and slightly more power from the same naturally aspirated V10. Audi has renamed the variants of the R8 so now on the Audi R8 V10 will be called Audi R8 V10 quattro, and Audi R8 V10 Plus will be called Audi R8 Performance quattro.
Starting from the front, the 2019 Audi R8 gets wider singleframe radiator grille with more domination of glossy black throughout the width of the front. There are some sharp lines between the grille and the side air-intakes to give it an aggressive look.
The LED DRLs are of the same shape and so is everything else on the outside. There is a silver front splitter at the front to add some contrast colour combo. Audi has introduced two new colours for the R8 – Kemora Gray and Ascari Blue – and high-gloss black badges as additional options.
Inside the cabin, everything remains the same but now available in new colour. The new options include 1. pastel silver with rock gray contrasting stitching, 2. palomino brown with steel gray stitching and 3. black with utopia blue stitching. The performance variant will get an R8 performance design package with leather and Alcantara upholstery as well as carbon fiber trim and Mercato blue accents.
Putting all the rumours of the turbocharged V6 to end, Audi has continued with the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine shared with Lamborghini. The base R8 V10 quattro variant gets 562 hp and 550 Nm of torque from the engine. The coupe goes from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 324 km/h.
In the range-topping R8 V10 Performance variant, the V10 motor churns out 611 hp and 580 Nm of torque, about 9 hp and 20 Nm more than the outgoing version. Using this much of power the coupe version hits 100 km/h from standstill in 3.1 just seconds and tops out at 331 km/h.
Apart from the visual upgrades, Audi has also upgraded R8’s suspension to provide “even more stability and precision.” The standard power steering system and the optional dynamic steering system have been worked for improved feedback and response.
The 2019 Audi R8 will go on sale starting from the Europian market from the first quarter of 2019.
