2027 Volvo EX60: The Electric Successor to a Legend

Volvo is betting big on its next chapter, and the 2027 Volvo EX60 is the clearest sign yet. After the XC60 became the brand’s best-selling model of all time, overtaking the iconic Volvo 240, the EX60 steps in as its fully electric successor, bringing new tech, longer range, and a sharper focus on performance and efficiency.

This isn’t just another EV. It’s a turning point for Volvo.

A Familiar Look, Smarter Design

At first glance, the EX60 looks unmistakably Volvo. Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, clean surfaces, and tall vertical taillights carry over the brand’s identity. But look closer, and the evolution becomes obvious.

The EX60 sits lower and sleeker than the XC60, with a drag coefficient of 0.26. That’s helped by a closed front grille, tapered sides, and a more aerodynamic roofline. The result is an SUV that looks premium without trying too hard.

SPA3 Platform: The Real Game Changer

Under the skin, the EX60 introduces Volvo’s all-new SPA3 architecture. This platform replaces the current SPA2 setup and unlocks major upgrades in performance, efficiency, and scalability.

Key highlights include:

  • Megacasting technology that reduces part count and production complexity

  • Structural battery packs using cell-to-body design

  • 20 percent higher energy density

  • Up to 31 percent faster charging

The platform also allows Volvo to scale models both larger and smaller than the EX60, making it the backbone of future EVs.

Power, Range, and Charging

The EX60 launches with three powertrain options:

  • P6 (RWD): 369 hp, 80 kWh battery, up to 310 miles

  • P10 (AWD): 503 hp, 91 kWh battery, up to 320 miles

  • P12 (AWD): 670 hp, 112 kWh battery, up to 400 miles

The flagship P12 sprints from 0–60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.

Thanks to its new 800V electrical system and NACS charging port, the EX60 can add up to 173 miles of range in just 10 minutes on a DC fast charger. All variants support 10–80 percent charging in under 20 minutes.

A Smarter, More Luxurious Cabin

Inside, the EX60 blends minimalism with serious tech. A curved 15.1-inch OLED touchscreen runs Google’s latest infotainment system with built-in Gemini AI. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard.

Other highlights include:

  • Slim digital driver display

  • Premium materials throughout

  • Optional 21-speaker Bose or 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio

  • Clever storage and a flat floor layout

Cargo space reaches 64 cubic feet with seats folded, and towing capacity climbs to 4,500 pounds.

Cross Country Variant Coming

Volvo will also introduce an EX60 Cross Country in 2028. It features standard AWD, increased ride height, rugged styling elements, and adjustable air suspension for light off-road use.

Pricing and Availability

The 2027 Volvo EX60 will arrive in the U.S. in phases:

  • P6 & P10: Summer 2027

  • P12: Later in the year

Expected pricing:

  • P6: Mid-$50,000 range

  • P10: Around $60,000

  • P12: Over $70,000

Bottom Line

The 2027 Volvo EX60 isn’t just an electric XC60 replacement. It’s a statement of where Volvo is headed—cleaner design, smarter tech, faster charging, and serious performance. If Volvo wanted a flagship for its electric future, this is it.
