Twitter users in the UK and Japan can now simply tap the location icon to add Yelp geotags to Tweets. Tweets will now have more context with location names, Yelp ratings and business details and an easy way to see other Tweets and photos tagged with the same location.

The feature enables Twitter users to use the location icon to tag tweets with local business information provided by Yelp. Senior Vice President Chad Richard explains that “Tweets will now have more context with location names, Yelp ratings and business details and an easy way to see other Tweets and photos tagged with the same location.”

The service has already be1280px_yelp_logo.f3d4f090809.originalen rolled out in Germany, its first market. Users in the UK and Japan can now use the feature on iOS and Android, with web-based access coming soon. France will be the next country to receive the geotags on Twitter.

Twitter ramped up its game in location services when it announced an integration an year ago with Foursquare to provide venue suggestions when you wanted to tag where you were tweeting. Interestingly, that deal appears to have applied only to the U.S., and now that Twitter’s expanding the service, it has partnered with one of Foursquare’s big competitors, Yelp, to power it.
