What does it mean to turn off Google location?

Turning off Google Location keeps your location history private, giving you the space to be wherever you want without someone tracing and recording your footsteps. When you flip that switch, Google stops building a detailed timeline of where you go. This simply means that you’ll no longer have the “Monthly Timeline” emails or other geographically linked predictions of your commute. It boosts your privacy and saves a bit of battery life, as it is not running in the background. But a little loss that people face with this is the loss of real-time traffic alerts or “find my phone” precision, which is often helpful at times. But it is a good way to give your mind some moments of peace.

Steps to turn off location history on Google

If you want to turn off the location history on Google, these are the steps that you can follow.

Go to your Google Account

The first thing is to go to your Google account. Just open the Google app on your phone or go to myaccount.google.com on a browser and tap on your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen.

Manage Your Account

Now click on the button that says “Manage your Google Account.” Here, you need to look for the “Data & privacy” tab along the navigation bar, which you can find at the top.

Locate History Settings

Scroll down until you see a section labeled “History settings.” Here you’ll see “Location History”.

Click on the Switch

Tap on it and hit the “Turn off” button. A screen will then ask you to confirm your decision, which you can do then and there. And it’s done! It takes only a few minutes and is quite helpful. Especially when you want some time off the grid.

To make things a little easier for you, you can also look for “Auto-delete.” You can set Google to automatically wipe your past location data every 3, 18, or 36 months so you don’t have to remember to do it manually.

These are the steps that can help you turn off the location history on Google. Whatever your reason is, these are the steps that will come in handy any time.
