Wanting to turn off the private relay on an iPhone? Follow the guide to know how you can do it and make working on the phone easier. Let’s get you started and tell you all you need to know about it.
What is a private relay on an iPhone?
The iCloud Private Relay works as a digital bodyguard for your Safari browsing. It’s a privacy feature that is inherently a part of iCloud+ that prevents websites and even Apple from knowing exactly who you are or what you’re looking at. When you browse, it splits your data into two separate “hops.” Both have their individual functions! One hides your IP address so websites can’t track your location or build a profile on you, and the second encrypts your DNS request so your internet provider can’t see which sites you’re visiting. So, if you are wondering how to understand the relay, it is much like an in-built VPN on your iPhone.
Steps to turn off private relay on an iPhone
If you want to turn off the private relay on an iPhone, then these are the steps that you can follow.
Open Settings
Open the settings on your iPhone, as this is where you will get all the switches and toggles that you need for this purpose.
Access your Apple ID
Now tap your Name/Profile picture at the very top of the menu.
Go to iCloud
Look for the blue cloud icon labeled iCloud and select it. This will open iCloud for you on your device.
Locate Private Relay
Scroll down a bit under the “iCloud+” section. You’ll see Private Relay out there, and you must tap on that.
Flip
Toggle the main Private Relay switch to the Off position. This will turn it off. It is when it is actually turned on. Otherwise, you just leave it the way it is.
Confirm your choice
A pop-up will appear on the screen of your iPhone, asking if you want to turn it off until tomorrow or turn it off completely. Choose “Turn Off Private Relay” to disable it permanently till you ever change your mind and come back again to turn it on.
Another thing to remember is that if you only want to disable it for a specific Wi-Fi network, you can simply go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap on the “i” next to your network, and toggle off iCloud Private Relay there instead.
Doing this will turn off the private Relay on your iPhone!
