Dynamax Hitmontop is a Fighting-type boss in Pokémon GO, and taking it down is much easier when you build your team around its weaknesses. Hitmontop can be challenged in Max Battles, where your Pokémon need to be Dynamax or Gigantamax eligible.

Know Dynamax Hitmontop’s weaknesses
Hitmontop is a pure Fighting-type Pokémon. That gives it three weaknesses: Psychic, Flying, and Fairy-type attacks. Each of these types deals super-effective damage, making them the best choices for your attacking lineup.
The best attack types to prioritize are:
- Psychic
- Flying
- Fairy
Because Hitmontop is a pure Fighting type, there is no secondary typing to complicate the matchup. That makes team building simple. Psychic attacks are usually the safest starting point, while Flying and Fairy options provide strong alternatives. If you have several choices at similar levels, compare their moves and Max Move access rather than choosing only by Combat Power. A well-built team can make the encounter smoother and reduce the chance that you run out of useful Pokémon before the final Max Phase.
Best counters to use
Dynamax Alakazam is one of the strongest choices for this battle. Confusion paired with Max Mindstorm gives it excellent Psychic-type damage during the Max Phase. Dynamax Azelf, Dynamax Latios, Dynamax Espeon, and Dynamax Metagross are also strong Psychic options.
For Flying damage, Dynamax Moltres is an excellent attacker, especially when using Wing Attack and Max Airstream. Dynamax Hatterene is another useful choice because its Fairy-type attacks can exploit Hitmontop’s weakness.
If you have access to Crowned Sword Zacian, it can also perform extremely well with Air Slash and Play Rough.
Build your Max Battle team carefully
A Max Battle is not simply about bringing three high-CP Pokémon and tapping the screen. Your team needs to survive long enough to reach the Max Phase and then take advantage of it.
Begin with a durable Pokémon that can absorb damage while you build Max Energy. Once the Max meter is ready, switch to your strongest attacker and use your Max Attacks.
Good defensive options can include Dynamax Gengar, Dynamax Latias, Dynamax Hatterene, Dynamax Latios, and Dynamax Gyarados.
Use the Max Phase properly
Once you Dynamax, focus on using attacks that match Hitmontop’s weaknesses. Psychic attackers are particularly attractive because moves such as Max Mindstorm can deal heavy super-effective damage.
If your lead Pokémon is close to fainting before the Max Phase, switching earlier can also be worthwhile.
Can you beat Dynamax Hitmontop solo?
Yes. Dynamax Hitmontop can be soloed, provided you have a suitable team and adequately powered Pokémon.
For a solo attempt, prioritize reliable attackers and make sure your Pokémon have useful Max Moves. A strong Psychic attacker such as Dynamax Alakazam can be especially valuable. You should also have a durable option available so you can keep charging the Max meter if your attacker cannot safely stay in battle.
Tips for an easier battle
Before entering the Power Spot, check that your selected Pokémon have the right moves and are powered up enough for the fight. Do not choose a counter solely because it has a high CP. Its typing, moves, and Max Move damage matter much more.
Keep these points in mind:
- Use Psychic, Flying, or Fairy attacks.
- Bring at least one durable Pokémon for charging Max Energy.
- Save your strongest attacker for the Max Phase when possible.
- Avoid wasting Max Attacks on resisted moves.
- Power up your best counters before attempting difficult solo battles.
