Reserving your character name is one of the first things to do before entering Azeroth in World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard Entertainment has introduced an early name reservation period, allowing eligible players to create their characters before the game’s official launch. However, there are specific requirements, deadlines, and naming rules you should understand before getting started.

The reservation window runs from October 27 through November 3, 2026. Players can reserve up to three characters during this period, but access requires purchasing an eligible upgrade. Here is how the process works and what you need to know.
When Does Name Reservation Start in WoW Forever?
Early name reservation for World of Warcraft: Forever is available from October 27 to November 3, 2026. The opening time depends on your region:
- Europe: October 27 at 6:00 PM Central European Time.
- North America: October 27 at 1:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time.
- Korea: October 28 at 7:00 AM Korean Standard Time.
- Taiwan: October 28 at 7:00 AM China Standard Time.
The reservation period gives eligible players an opportunity to secure their preferred character names before launch. Names are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so popular combinations may become unavailable quickly.
Who Can Reserve Character Names Early?
Not every player automatically qualifies for early name reservation. You must purchase an eligible World of Warcraft: Forever product to access the feature.
Qualifying purchases include the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, and Warcraft Forever Collection. The benefit applies only to the specific World of Warcraft account associated with the purchase.
Simply having access to the beta does not guarantee early name reservation. If you have not purchased an eligible upgrade, check the available editions before attempting to reserve your character.
How to Reserve Your Name in WoW Forever
Once you meet the requirements, follow these steps to create your characters and reserve their names.
Step 1: Install the Battle.net Desktop App
Download and install the Battle.net desktop application on your computer if you have not already done so. Open the application and allow it to install any pending updates.
Make sure you are signed in to the correct account. This matters because your reservation eligibility is connected to the account on which you purchased the qualifying product.
Step 2: Select World of Warcraft: Forever
Open the game library and select World of Warcraft. Above the Play button, find the Game Version menu.
Choose World of Warcraft: Forever from the available versions and select Install. Wait for the installation to finish before proceeding.
Make sure you select the correct game client rather than the separate beta client.
Step 3: Choose Your Ruleset
Launch World of Warcraft: Forever and select your preferred ruleset. Consider whether you want a Normal, Player-versus-Player, or Role-Play experience before creating your characters.
If you plan to play with friends, coordinate your choices beforehand. Selecting the same ruleset will help you prepare for your adventures together.
Step 4: Create Your Character
Use the character creation screen to customize your character and enter your preferred name.
During early reservation, you can create up to three characters across all rulesets combined. For example, creating two characters under the Player-versus-Player ruleset leaves you with one remaining reservation.
Complete the character creation process to reserve the name. Remember that choosing a name does not guarantee that it will be available if another player has already claimed the same full name.
How Do Character Names Work in WoW Forever?
World of Warcraft: Forever introduces a two-part naming system. Each character has a first name and a secondary name, similar to a first name and surname.
The complete combination must be unique within your region. However, individual parts can be shared between different characters.
For example, two players could use the first name Aria, provided their complete names are different. This system gives players more flexibility when creating characters in a game without traditional realms.
Both parts must follow the game’s naming rules. Blizzard may reject certain words, spellings, repeated-character patterns, or names that violate its naming policies.
Can You Guarantee Your Preferred Name?
No. Even if you purchase an eligible upgrade, Blizzard does not guarantee that your preferred name will be available.
Your best option is to prepare several alternatives before the reservation window closes. Consider different surnames or combinations that fit your character’s race, personality, and background.
