Getting a tank in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ is not as simple as finding a vehicle and driving away. You must locate four missing components, collect them across deployments, and repair a damaged tank hidden inside Chang-san Air Base. Once the vehicle is operational, you can use its heavy firepower to destroy enemy vehicles and fight across the Hajin map.

The process takes preparation, especially because some components are difficult to find and accessing the tank requires completing a specific story mission. Here is how to find every part and get the tank running.
Where to Find the Tank in MW4 DMZ
The repairable tank is located inside the Tank Depot, which is connected to the Armory beneath Chang-san Air Base. This location is part of the Hajin Exclusion Zone map.
You cannot simply approach the tank and start driving. First, you need four components:
- Tank Battery
- Tank Alternator
- Tank Plugs
- Tank Water Pump
These components spawn at different locations around Chang-san Air Base. Their exact positions can vary between deployments, so expect to search multiple areas rather than follow a single fixed route.
How to Find All Four Tank Parts
1. Find the Tank Battery
The Tank Battery can be found in the bunker tunnels beneath the Air Base Hangar. Search corners, shelves, and other surfaces as you move through the underground area.
Do not waste time opening every container. The tank components appear as loose items in the environment rather than inside regular loot containers.
2. Locate the Tank Alternator
The Tank Alternator is one of the more difficult components to obtain because it can be found inside the Air Base Armory. Accessing this area requires additional preparation and progress through Operation Iron Citadel.
Search the Armory and nearby northern bunker areas when possible. Since the component’s precise spawn location can vary, check the surrounding rooms carefully.
3. Collect the Tank Plugs
Search the mechanic shacks on the western side of Chang-san Air Base for Tank Plugs. You should also check the underground Hangar, particularly around aircraft and nearby structures.
Move carefully through these areas, as hostile enemies can make searching dangerous.
4. Search for the Tank Water Pump
The Tank Water Pump can spawn around buildings in the northern part of Chang-san Air Base. Check rooftops, shelves, corners, and other exposed surfaces.
Because the spawn location is randomized, you might need several attempts before finding this component.
Can You Collect the Tank Parts Across Multiple Matches?
Yes. You do not need to find all four components during a single deployment. You can collect one part, extract successfully, store it, and return for the remaining components in later matches.
This approach is particularly useful because Chang-san Air Base is dangerous, and searching the entire area in one deployment can waste valuable time.
Whenever possible, secure each component and extract before attempting another search. A Secure Slot can also help protect eligible loot if you fail to extract, provided the item is stored there.
How to Unlock Operation Iron Citadel
Operation Iron Citadel is required to access the Armory and reach the Tank Depot. If the mission is unavailable, complete the three Tier 1 story missions first:
- Critical Extraction
- Silent Ledger
- Shopping Hacks
Once unlocked, select Operation Iron Citadel from the Story Missions screen before deploying.
During the mission, you must access the Air Base Armory. Find three notes titled Transfer Slip – Do Not File in the bunker to assemble the six-digit access code. The code changes between matches, so you cannot rely on a combination from an earlier deployment.
Enter the code at the vault door and use the upgraded Air Base Access Card to proceed. Be prepared to fight the Colossus guarding the area. Bring suitable weapons and explosives before attempting this encounter.
How to Repair and Get the Tank
After entering the Armory, follow these steps:
- Turn right on the ground floor to reach the Tank Depot.
- Locate the damaged tank at the back of the area.
- Approach its rear section and interact with it.
- Install the Tank Battery, Tank Alternator, Tank Plugs, and Tank Water Pump.
- Once all four components are installed, the tank becomes operational.
Clear nearby enemies before starting the repair. Lieutenant Bale may also appear in the Tank Depot, so stay alert while working on the vehicle.
How to Use and Maintain Your Tank
Once repaired, the tank becomes a powerful vehicle for the remainder of your deployment. It has two seats, allowing one player to drive while another occupies the second position.
Its main gun can destroy most enemy vehicles, making it useful when facing hostile squads in cars or trucks. However, the tank is not invincible, and its fuel and condition need attention.
Visit Gas Stations to refuel and repair the vehicle when necessary. Plan your route ahead of time, particularly when travelling through dangerous areas.
