Concerns around artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are growing rapidly as AI systems become more powerful and capable of detecting weaknesses in digital infrastructure. It is no less than a double-edged sword, which may also end up backfiring.  Recently, Anthropic revealed that its advanced AI model, Mythos, identified vulnerabilities in widely used software, browsers, and financial systems that were otherwise undetected. The findings were serious enough for the Global Financial Stability Board to seek a direct briefing from the company. While this may sound like good news, it also raises concerns. Regulators now face a difficult balance: AI can strengthen cyber defenses, but the same technology could also help attackers discover and exploit hidden flaws at an unprecedented scale. Scary, right? So, to reduce risks, Anthropic has reportedly limited access to Mythos and is allowing only selected organizations to test the model under controlled conditions.

How can big firms use it?

Large companies can use advanced AI systems like Mythos to improve cybersecurity, reduce operational risks, and detect weaknesses before hackers are able to exploit them. Banks, tech firms, and cloud service providers could use such AI tools to scan massive networks and identify hidden vulnerabilities much faster than human teams and secure the data.

Firms may also use AI for real-time threat monitoring, fraud detection, and testing how resilient their systems are against sophisticated attacks. We understand that it still doesn’t negate the possibility of attacks happening, but let’s focus on the silver lining as well. In industries like finance, where even a small breach can create major disruption, AI-driven security assessments could become a regular part of risk management.
At the same time, companies would need strict controls around access and usage. Since this misuse can cause damage beyond repair, they have to be careful.

What else can Mythos do?

Mythos can easily go beyond cybersecurity testing and could potentially assist in many complex areas that require deep analysis and pattern recognition. Advanced AI systems like this can process enormous amounts of technical data, identify unusual behavior, and generate solutions much faster than traditional software tools. In software development, it could help engineers debug code, detect system failures early, and improve infrastructure reliability.

In finance, Mythos may support fraud detection, market-risk analysis, and automated compliance checks. Healthcare organizations could eventually use similar AI systems to analyze medical research, improve diagnostics, or manage hospital data more efficiently. Governments and research institutions may also rely on such models for disaster prediction, infrastructure monitoring, and national cybersecurity preparedness.

Another major capability is simulation and scenario testing. Mythos could model how systems react under stress, helping organizations prepare for outages, cyberattacks, or economic shocks. However, because of its advanced capabilities, experts believe access should remain carefully controlled and closely monitored.
