Apple kicked off “Mac Week” with a highly anticipated announcement: a refreshed 24-inch iMac now featuring the M4 chip. Known for its sleek, all-in-one design, the iMac remains a fan favorite, and this update brings impressive power upgrades and feature improvements. Apple claims the new M4-powered iMac is up to two times faster than its original M1 counterpart, and it’s designed to deliver faster performance in an efficient, compact form factor. Starting at $1,299, the refreshed iMac is now available for pre-order, with shipping slated to begin on November 8.

Enhanced Performance with the New M4 Chip

The key feature of this new iMac is the powerful M4 chip, Apple’s latest iteration in its proprietary series of silicon processors. This M4 chip is designed to double the power of the original M1 iMac, a notable upgrade that brings Apple’s in-house processing advancements to a broader range of users. The M4 chip is built around an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU configuration, which powers the base model. For users needing more performance, a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU version is available at a starting price of $1,499. This new iMac is geared to handle demanding tasks such as graphic design, video editing, and gaming with greater efficiency and speed.

Stunning 24-Inch 4K Display

The 24-inch iMac’s display has been one of its hallmark features, and Apple hasn’t overlooked this in the latest refresh. The desktop comes equipped with a stunning 4K Retina display, offering a crisp and vibrant visual experience. An optional nano-texture glass upgrade is available, which reduces glare and is aimed at professionals working in brightly lit environments. This enhancement makes the iMac suitable for users who rely on accurate color representation and reduced screen reflections for creative tasks.

Enhanced Connectivity with Thunderbolt 4

The back of the new iMac features four Thunderbolt 4 ports, which provide faster data transfer speeds and greater flexibility for connecting peripherals. Thunderbolt 4 offers significant performance improvements over previous versions, supporting multiple 4K displays and delivering up to 40 Gbps of data transfer speeds. This update means users can connect high-performance storage, external monitors, and other devices seamlessly.

Apple has finally addressed a long-standing user request by updating its iMac accessories to feature USB-C connectivity. The iMac keyboard, mouse, and trackpad now come with USB-C ports, replacing the outdated Lightning ports. This move aligns Apple’s accessories with its broader shift to USB-C across its product lines, a transition that simplifies charging and connectivity for users by eliminating the need for Lightning cables.

Positioned above the display, the iMac’s 12-megapixel webcam introduces Centerstage, a feature originally designed for the iPad, which dynamically adjusts to keep the user centered in the frame. This is a valuable addition for users who frequently use video conferencing or streaming platforms, as it ensures they stay in focus even if they move slightly. The 12-megapixel camera provides high-quality video, enhancing virtual meetings and calls with sharper, clearer image quality.

Apple Intelligence Debuts with macOS Sequoia

Alongside the new iMac, Apple also introduced “Apple Intelligence,” a software suite debuting as part of the macOS Sequoia 15.2 update. Apple Intelligence offers a suite of smart features powered by advanced machine learning, which aims to optimize user productivity and enhance the overall computing experience. It includes smarter file management, predictive text, and context-aware suggestions across the operating system. This feature, although initially exclusive to Sequoia, is expected to gradually roll out to other macOS devices in future updates.

The base model of the M4 iMac comes with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with options to upgrade to 32GB of memory and up to 2TB of SSD storage. This flexibility allows users to configure the iMac based on their specific needs. Professionals handling large files or running memory-intensive applications will benefit from these customizable storage and memory options, which enable the device to handle intensive workloads without lag or slowdowns.

The new iMac will be available in a wide range of colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and the classic silver, giving users a choice to match their aesthetic preferences. This vibrant color selection has become an iconic feature of the iMac line and is part of Apple’s commitment to personalizing technology. The iMac is available for pre-order immediately, with the first units expected to arrive on November 8.

Apple’s refresh of the iMac with the M4 chip, improved accessories, and innovative software demonstrates the company’s commitment to maintaining its competitive edge in the desktop market. This latest model is positioned to attract a broad range of users, from casual users to professionals who need a powerful and reliable all-in-one system for work, creative pursuits, and entertainment. With a combination of design, power, and customization options, the M4 iMac continues to build on Apple’s legacy of innovation in desktop computing.
