17 October 2018, India:

ASUS launched two smartphones today – Zenfone Max M1 and Zenfone Lite L1. Among the both smartphones, Zenfone Lite L1 is cheaper. Let’s see what ASUS has offered with this smartphone.

Design

A 3.5 mm Headphone Jack is present at the top of Zenfone Lite L1. On the right side of Zenfone Lite L1, volume rocker and power button is present. At bottom speaker, mic and a Micro-USB port for charging and data transfer is present. On the left, the SIM card tray is present. The SIM card tray has triple slot (2 Nano SIMs + 1 MicroSD card slot), which is good.

The smartphone is available in 2 colour variants – Black and Gold.

Display

ASUS Zenfone Lite L1 has a 5.45 inch HD+ Display. It has the modern screen-aspect-ratio of 18:9. The display is IPS LCD similar to ASUS Zenfone Max M1. The pixel density is 293 ppi.

The smartphone has 82% screen-to-body ratio. The display has 400 nits of brightness. The display has contrast ratio of 800:1 and 65% NTSC colour gamut.

Processor and GPU

The Zenfone Lite L1 has the same processor as its bigger sibling Zenfone Max M1 – Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, which is an octa-core chip. The Snapdragon 430 has 8 x A53 cores which are clocked at 1.4 GHz. The smartphone has Adreno 505 GPU.

Battery

The smartphone has 3000 mAh battery. The company has given a 10W charger in the box, which is not a fast charger.

RAM and Storage

The smartphone has 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Internal Storage. The Internal Storage is low, but the company has given a dedicated Micro-SD card to make up for the low Internal Storage.

The dedicated Micro-SD card clot can handle Micro-SD cards of up-to 256 GB capacity.

Camera

Zenfone Lite L1 has 13 MP single rear camera. The rear camera has f/2.0 aperture. The pixel size is 1.12μm. The rear camera has a LED flash to support it in low-light photography. The rear camera is same as of ASUS Zenfone Max M1.

ASUS Zenfone Lite L1 has 5 MP front camera. The front camera has f/2.4 aperture. The pixel size in front camera is 1.12μm. LED flash is present at front side also.

Security

Fingerprint sensor is not present on the Zenfone Lite L1. That’s a surprising move. ASUS has given Face Unlock for unlocking the smartphone. The Face Unlock is software based and it uses the front camera to recognise face.

Software

The smartphone runs on ZenUI 5.0, which runs on the top of Android Oreo 8.0. ZenUI 5.0 is close to stock Android and has less bloatware. The UI is doesn’t have ads.

Pricing

In India, ASUS Zenfone Lite L1 is priced as ₹6,999 (about $96). The smartphone is Flipkart Exclusive. The smartphone will be available at ₹5,999 (about $82)  during Flipkart Festive Dhamaka Days.

Overall

Consider the price, the smartphone looks good. Lack of fingerprint hurts, but Snapdragon 430, 3000 mAh batter, dedicated Micro-SD card tries to make up for it. The smartphone doesn’t have a proper USP, but price can be a USP.

This is a good smartphone in budget segment for first time smartphone buyers (who wants Stock Android experience).
