Bansal’s investment demonstrates his long-term goal of applying cutting-edge technologies to address pressing issues in important industries including sustainability, energy, healthcare, and agriculture. He thinks AI-powered solutions have the power to revolutionize sectors and strengthen India’s position in the world’s deep tech scene.

In this article, we will delve into Binny Bansal’s Rs 70 crore investment in Plaksha University and how the newly launched Binny Bansal Institute for Inventing the Future (IIF) aims to revolutionize AI, blockchain, and robotics.

AI, Blockchain, and Robotics: The Core Focus Areas

Fundamentally, the IIF will concentrate on creating AI-powered solutions in domains including financial technology, biotechnology, and climate research. These technologies have the power to completely change how governments and corporations approach problems pertaining to public welfare, economic efficiency, and sustainability.

The institute will also try to close the skill gap in deep-tech disciplines and nurture AI talent. As blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) transform industries around the world, IIF will play a critical role in equipping India’s workforce for the upcoming technological revolution.

Collaboration with Berkeley: A Global Perspective

Plaksha University has partnered with the University of California, Berkeley, and its Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR) Lab. This collaboration will foster:

  • Joint research projects
  • Faculty and student exchanges
  • AI education initiatives

Professor Shankar Sastry, Founding Chancellor of Plaksha University, emphasized that the institute would integrate technical expertise with societal needs to drive meaningful innovation. The Berkeley partnership brings cutting-edge knowledge and world-class research opportunities, ensuring that IIF stays at the forefront of deep-tech advancements.

Plaksha University: A Rising Deep-Tech Powerhouse

Plaksha University was founded in 2021 and has rapidly established itself as a pioneer in research and teaching centered around technology. With support from Info Edge, the firm behind 99acres, Jeevansathi, Shiksha, and Naukri.com, it established the Info Edge Center for Entrepreneurship last year. This center gives students resources, incubation, and mentorship to help them transform their ideas into successful enterprises.

The university is now putting even more emphasis on deep-tech research and AI-driven innovation thanks to the IIF. Plaksha is positioned as a major player in the changing environment of tech-driven education in India thanks to the support of industry titans.

Backed by Industry Giants

Plaksha University boasts support from some of the biggest names in business and technology, including:

  • Neeraj Aggarwal (Chairman – Asia Pacific, BCG)
  • Rakesh Bharti Mittal (Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises)
  • Hitesh Oberoi (Co-founder & CEO, Info Edge)
  • Srikanth Velamakanni (Co-founder, Fractal Analytics)
  • Sujeet Kumar (Co-founder, Udaan)
  • Dalip Pathak (Special Limited Partner, Warburg Pincus LLC)
  • CP Gurnani (Former MD & CEO, Tech Mahindra)
  • Pramod Bhasin (Chairman, Clix Capital)

Their involvement highlights the strategic importance of Plaksha in shaping India’s deep-tech ecosystem.

Binny Bansal’s Vision: Tech for Real-World Impact

Reflecting on his investment, Binny Bansal emphasized the need to apply technology to real-world challenges. He stated:

The ability of technology to solve urgent problems will determine its future. My belief that cutting-edge technologies, from healthcare to renewable energy, have the ability to greatly improve people’s lives is reflected in this institute. I’m excited to see how this initiative may offer scalable solutions to global issues and equip the next generation of innovators with the means to lead.

This project aligns with Bansal’s broader objective of using technology to bring about long-lasting and scalable change. His business background, which includes co-founding Flipkart and starting Xto10x, demonstrates his commitment to innovation and ecosystem-building.
