BMW didn’t plan to say this much, this early. But a slip on its U.S. online store has pulled the curtain back on what looks like one of the brand’s most aggressive product offensives yet. The BMW 2027 lineup leak points to nearly 40 models in the pipeline, spanning combustion, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles.
At the center of it all is the Neue Klasse strategy, BMW’s next-gen architecture that blends electrification with a refreshed design language. And if this leak is anything to go by, the rollout is going to be anything but subtle.
M2 xDrive Finally Joins the Party
Let’s start with the headline grabber: the M2 xDrive.
For years, BMW has resisted giving its smallest full-fat M car an all-wheel-drive setup. That changes in 2027. The addition of xDrive signals a shift in how BMW is positioning even its purist models, leaning slightly toward performance accessibility rather than raw, rear-wheel-drive purity.
Expect it to come paired with an automatic transmission, much like its bigger siblings. That said, BMW isn’t abandoning enthusiasts entirely. The current rear-wheel-drive, manual M2 is expected to stick around alongside it.
There will be trade-offs. Added weight is inevitable, and pricing will likely climb north of the current M2’s $70K mark. But in return, buyers get sharper traction and year-round usability.
3 Series Evolves: Performance and Electric Expansion
The next-generation 3 Series is shaping up to be a major pivot point.
The leak reveals an M350 xDrive, set to replace the M340i. This suggests BMW may be standardizing all-wheel drive for its M Performance variants, moving away from offering rear-wheel-drive alternatives.
On the electric side, the 3 Series family expands significantly. Two variants, i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive, are listed, confirming BMW’s commitment to bringing a fully electric 3 Series sedan to the U.S. market.
These models are expected to share DNA with the upcoming iX3, tying the sedan and SUV EV strategies closer than ever.
Expanding the Electric “iX” Family
BMW’s electric SUV push is equally aggressive.
The iX3 will arrive in multiple configurations: rear-wheel-drive 40 sDrive and dual-motor 40 and 50 xDrive versions. It won’t be alone for long. The first-ever iX4 is also in the pipeline, offering a coupe-style alternative with a sleeker profile.
Higher up the range, the next-gen X5 will retain a combustion base variant but also introduce an iX5 60 xDrive a clear signal that BMW sees electrification as a core, not optional, part of its future.
Flagship Changes and Quiet Exits
At the top end, the 7 Series is due for a refresh. While details remain under wraps, early indications suggest a new M760 variant with V8 power will step in, keeping performance alive in the luxury segment. The V12, however, is effectively gone from BMW’s lineup, reserved now for Rolls-Royce.
Not everything makes the cut. The Z4 and 8 Series are notably absent from the leaked list, aligning with reports that both models are nearing the end of their lifecycle.
What This Means for BMW
Here’s the bigger picture. BMW isn’t just expanding its lineup, it’s reshaping it.
The mix of internal combustion, hybrid, and electric models shows a brand hedging smartly, not rushing to abandon its roots but clearly investing in what’s next. The Neue Klasse platform will act as the backbone of this transition, and by 2027, it’ll be everywhere.
