BMW has taken another big step in its electric mobility journey with the official unveiling of the BMW iX3, built on the brand’s futuristic Neue Klasse platform. Packed with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), groundbreaking computing capabilities, and impressive charging speeds, the iX3 signals the German automaker’s ambition to lead the EV market.
Seamless Driving with Automatic Turn Signals
A standout innovation in the new iX3 is the automatic turn signal activation feature. Developed to enhance safety and driver convenience, this system works in harmony with the driver rather than replacing them. The car uses advanced eye-tracking and attention-monitoring technologies to sense when the driver intends to change lanes or make a turn. It can then activate and deactivate the turn signal accordingly, without the driver having to lift a finger.
When cruising on highways, the system allows for semi-autonomous lane changes, reducing driver workload while maintaining a natural driving experience. BMW is positioning this level of autonomy as a bridge between today’s vehicles and the fully autonomous cars of tomorrow.
Snapdragon-Powered Processing for Enhanced Safety
Under the hood (figuratively), the iX3 is powered by an all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon Ride computing platform. This marks a significant leap in processing power for BMW vehicles, providing lightning-fast decision-making and superior environmental awareness through an advanced network of cameras and radar sensors.
The car’s ability to accurately interpret its surroundings allows for smoother operation of driver assistance features, from adaptive cruise control to emergency braking and lane-keeping. With the ADAS working seamlessly with driver input, BMW aims to boost both driver confidence and road safety.
Ultra-Fast Charging with 640 km Range
The new iX3’s range and charging capabilities further set it apart. Thanks to a redesigned battery architecture, the crossover offers an impressive 640 km range on a single charge (WLTP cycle). Even more remarkable is its fast-charging ability, with support for 400 kW charging, drivers can gain up to 320 km of range in just 10 minutes. This drastically reduces downtime and makes long road trips far more practical in an EV.
Coupled with improved motor power management and a new processor coordinating stability and traction functions, the iX3 promises a refined and comfortable driving experience even in challenging weather conditions.
Part of BMW’s Neue Klasse Strategy
The iX3 is a key component of BMW’s Neue Klasse strategy, which envisions a new generation of EVs built from the ground up to maximize efficiency, driving pleasure, and digital connectivity. The company plans to roll out multiple new models on this platform in the coming years as it shifts its portfolio toward electrification.
With features that enhance safety, convenience, and range, without compromising driving dynamics, BMW hopes the iX3 will appeal not only to traditional BMW fans but also to new customers ready to make the switch to electric mobility.
