BMW M GmbH has done it again. In 2025, the high-performance brand recorded its 14th consecutive year of sales growth, closing the year with 213,457 vehicles sold worldwide. That’s a solid three percent jump over 2024 and another clear signal that demand for performance cars is not slowing down.
What’s driving this momentum? A strong mix of high-performance icons, electrified models, and global market demand.
M5 and M5 Touring Lead the Charge
The biggest growth drivers of the year were the BMW M5 Sedan and M5 Touring, both enjoying their first full year on the market. These models combine everyday usability with serious power, thanks to the M HYBRID system delivering 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.
The M5 Touring also picked up the prestigious Golden Steering Wheel award, beating competitors across performance, efficiency, and overall value. It’s a rare case of a high-performance estate winning on both emotion and engineering.
M2 Emerges as the Best-Selling High-Performance Model
Among pure performance cars, the BMW M2 Coupé stood out as the brand’s top seller. Its blend of compact size, rear-wheel drive, and aggressive tuning clearly struck a chord with enthusiasts.
The track-focused M2 CS pushed things even further, clocking an impressive 7:25.5 lap time at the Nürburgring, reinforcing BMW M’s reputation for building road cars that thrive on the circuit.
BMW M3 Family Hits Record Sales
The BMW M3 lineup also delivered a standout year, with nearly 71,500 units sold globally. The range now spans everything from a purist manual version to the high-performance M3 CS Touring, making it one of the most versatile performance families on the market.
This broad appeal helped the M3 achieve its highest-ever sales numbers in 2025.
X3 M50 Becomes the Brand’s Best-Selling Model
The surprise hero of the year was the BMW X3 M50, which became BMW M’s best-selling model overall. With 398 hp, mild-hybrid tech, and everyday practicality, it hit the sweet spot between performance and usability, exactly what modern buyers want.
Electric Performance Continues to Gain Ground
The BMW i4 M60 xDrive remained a strong performer, building on its success from previous years. With 601 hp and a range of up to 551 km, it proved that electric performance can still deliver the signature M experience.
Motorsport Success Fuels Brand Momentum
On the track, BMW M had another dominant season. With over 180 race wins globally, highlights included victories at Nürburgring, Suzuka, Watkins Glen, and Road America. The BMW M Hybrid V8 and M4 GT3 EVO led the charge, while the upcoming BMW M2 Racing will expand the brand’s motorsport presence in 2026.
Looking Ahead
According to BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel, the strategy is clear: performance without compromise, regardless of powertrain. With combustion, hybrid, and electric models all performing strongly, BMW M enters 2026 with confidence and momentum firmly on its side.
If 2025 proved anything, it’s this: BMW M isn’t just keeping pace with the future of performance, it’s defining it.
