According to reports, OpenAI will release “Strawberry” within two weeks as part of its ChatGPT service. OpenAI is gearing up to release a new artificial intelligence model, “Strawberry,” designed to improve reasoning capabilities in AI responses. According to reports from The Information, the new model will be integrated into OpenAI’s ChatGPT service within the next two weeks. This move aims to enhance the quality of AI responses by allowing the system to pause and think before generating an answer, unlike current AI models that provide immediate replies.

OpenAI will release “Strawberry” within two weeks, introducing a model designed to “think” before responding. Strawberry stands out due to its ability to pause and deliberate before responding. This unique feature allows the AI to produce more considered and thoughtful answers, addressing the need for better reasoning in conversational AI. However, this thoughtful approach comes at a cost—testers reported that Strawberry can take 10 to 20 seconds to respond, a significant delay compared to other models. While it handles complex questions efficiently, the longer response time was seen as excessive for straightforward queries.

Text-Only Input and Output

Unlike its predecessors, Strawberry will initially be limited to text input and output, without the ability to process images or other multimedia content. While this might seem like a limitation, the text-only approach is expected to reduce errors, such as AI hallucinations or incorrect information. OpenAI is expected to roll out the text-only model “Strawberry” as part of its efforts to reduce AI hallucinations. This focus on reliability could make Strawberry more suitable for tasks requiring accuracy and deeper understanding.

While Strawberry will be a part of ChatGPT, reports suggest it will also be offered as a standalone service. However, details about how this standalone version will be implemented remain unclear. The model is expected to excel in addressing complex, multi-step problems, such as solving algebraic equations or creating long-term strategies, thanks to its advanced reasoning skills.

Higher Costs and Usage Limits

OpenAI is positioning “Strawberry” as a model capable of handling complex, multi-step tasks like solving intricate problems. Strawberry’s enhanced reasoning capabilities come with increased computational demands, resulting in slower response times and higher usage costs. Reports indicate that the model may include rate limits, restricting the number of messages a user can send per hour. A higher-priced tier with faster response times could also be introduced to meet the needs of power users.

Strawberry is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to improve AI’s reasoning and problem-solving abilities. The project was previously known as Q or Q-star and aligns with the company’s push towards developing more sophisticated AI models capable of handling intricate tasks. Other projects, such as GPT-Next, are also in the pipeline. OpenAI Japan’s CEO, Tadao Nagasaki, recently revealed that GPT-Next would be 100 times more powerful than GPT-4 and would incorporate elements from the Strawberry project.

Market Impact and Potential Price Hikes

Experts believe that OpenAI will release “Strawberry” within two weeks to address complex, multi-step problems more effectively. The development of Strawberry comes amid reports that OpenAI may raise its subscription prices, with some plans possibly reaching up to $2,000 per month. While it is unclear whether this pricing would apply to Strawberry, the company is facing rising costs as it scales its AI infrastructure. With major investments from Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple, OpenAI’s valuation is expected to exceed $100 billion, but the high cost of developing advanced AI systems like Strawberry remains a challenge.

Thus, Strawberry marks a significant step forward in AI reasoning, with its ability to pause and reflect before responding. However, its longer response times and higher costs may limit its appeal to users seeking instant answers. The AI community will be watching closely to see how Strawberry performs once it becomes available.
