With a career spanning industry giants like Microsoft, Belkin, and Star India, Anand has combined corporate precision with entrepreneurial drive to redefine what it means to build a truly international tech brand. In this exclusive interview, he reflects on his professional journey, the vision behind partnering with Honeywell, and how disciplined execution and adaptability have powered Secure Connection’s remarkable global growth.
1. Can you share a bit about your professional journey and what led you to co-found Secure Connection Ltd.?
I was shaped early on by a family rooted in the armed forces, which instilled discipline, resilience, and adaptability. My career in technology began with sales and operational roles at companies such as Dave Thompson, Tangerine Computers, and Iris Computers, followed by a significant tenure at Microsoft where I played a key role in the Xbox launch and earned recognition from Bill Gates. Leadership positions at Belkin and Da Vinci Learning reinforced the importance of execution, strategic vision, and learning from setbacks. In 2016, driven by a desire to build a global enterprise, I co-founded Secure Connection Ltd., leveraging my expertise in consumer technology and international markets. Today, the company operates in over 80 countries, reflecting a journey of continuous growth, innovation, and entrepreneurial rigor.
2. What was the vision behind partnering with Honeywell and launching the Honeywell Connection brand across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East?
The partnership with Honeywell was driven by the brand’s legacy of trust and excellence, coupled with an opportunity to introduce innovative technology solutions across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Through a global brand license, Secure Connection Ltd. aims to deliver products that enhance consumer experiences across the four key screens—TV, smartphone, tablet, and computer—while remaining true to Honeywell’s design ethos. This collaboration enables us to combine global standards with local insights, offering products like air purifiers, audio and IT accessories that elevate digital lifestyles, align with Honeywell’s global reputation, and cater to regional market needs.
3. How does Secure Connection differentiate itself in the highly competitive connectivity and consumer electronics space?
Secure Connection differentiates itself through rigorous execution, deep market insight, and an entrepreneurial mindset. While strategy is widely understood, our focus is on rapid execution, learning in real time, and adapting to diverse markets. The Honeywell partnership provides global credibility, which we complement with local agility—tailoring product portfolios, design, and go-to-market strategies to regional nuances. We honor Honeywell’s ethos of enhancing everyday life through purposeful technology while innovating in emerging categories such as health and wellness. Coupled with hands-on leadership, a flat culture, and uncompromising integrity, this approach enables us to build a globally trusted consumer tech brand with strong local relevance.
4. What have been some of the key milestones or breakthroughs for the company under your leadership?
Since 2016, Secure Connection Ltd. has grown from a single-country operation to a presence in over 80 countries across South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Africa, with a diverse team of more than 110 professionals. A major milestone from the get-go was the fact that we were able to secure an exclusive trademark licensing deal from Honeywell International Inc., leveraging its legacy to deliver innovative consumer technology solutions. Along the way, we navigated challenges such as demonetization, GST rollout, COVID-19, and supply chain disruptions, emerging stronger each time. Establishing a scalable, flexible business model with a world-class omni-channel strategy, combined with deep consumer insights driving product innovation, underscores our commitment to excellence, resilience, and global growth.
5. Having worked at companies like Microsoft, Belkin, and Star India, how have those experiences shaped your leadership style today?
My experiences at Microsoft, Belkin, and Star India have been instrumental in shaping my leadership approach. Microsoft instilled the importance of a flat, transparent culture where ideas take precedence over hierarchy and execution speed drives results. At Belkin, I learned to build and scale businesses with agility, accountability, and team empowerment. Even a brief stint at Star India reinforced self-awareness and the significance of cultural fit in leadership. Today, at Secure Connection, I integrate these lessons into a hands-on, fearless, and execution-focused style that emphasizes honesty, resilience, and empowering teams with full ownership and purpose.
6. What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a founder and how did you overcome them?
Shortly after launching Secure Connection in 2016, we faced demonetization, followed by GST implementation, the COVID-19 pandemic, and global disruptions including the Ukraine war and supply chain crises. These events brought operational and financial hurdles, from managing cash flow to keeping distributed teams motivated. Overcoming them required a disciplined focus on execution, agility, and integrity, staying lean, making swift decisions, and adapting rapidly to evolving circumstances. These experiences reinforced that entrepreneurship is not just about vision, but about navigating uncertainty decisively, staying hands-on, and leading with calm and purpose under pressure.
7. How do you approach scaling operations across such diverse and dynamic markets?
Successfully scaling in diverse markets requires a mix of disciplined global processes and nimble local execution. At Secure Connection, we start with a strong operational framework that ensures efficiency, while empowering regional teams to adapt strategies to their unique markets—what works in the GCC may not work in Southeast Asia. With a presence in over 80 countries, our approach balances brand consistency with tailored product offerings, communications, and go-to-market models. By staying data-driven, customer-focused, and willing to experiment, we scale sustainably while remaining agile, responsive, and aligned with local market dynamics.
8. What trends or innovations in the connectivity space are you most excited about right now?
What excites me most is the convergence of speed, personalization, and seamless integration in consumer technology. Today’s consumers demand tech that moves with them—enabling work, entertainment, and connectivity on the go—while delivering instant usability and convenience. Across markets from India to Southeast Asia and the Middle East, platforms are evolving into super apps that unify services, payments, and commerce to meet these expectations. Equally compelling is the rise of localized, purpose-driven innovation—products tailored to regional needs yet aligned with global standards, as we do with Honeywell. Add to this breakthroughs in health, wellness, and smart home connectivity, and it’s clear that the most significant opportunities lie in creating technology that genuinely enhances lifestyles at every touchpoint.
9. What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs looking to build sustainable, globally-relevant tech businesses?
Building a sustainable, globally relevant tech business requires discipline, resilience, and principled leadership. Perseverance is essential—great businesses are built over time, not overnight, and cutting corners only leads to long-term setbacks. Entrepreneurs should embrace failure as a critical learning tool, recognizing that every setback offers insight and opportunity. Execution is where vision meets reality: even the best strategies succeed only when implemented effectively and consistently. Alongside these, integrity and compliance are non-negotiable—scalable businesses thrive when built ethically and responsibly. Success also demands a hands-on approach, a deep understanding of markets, and the agility to adapt rapidly to changing dynamics. Ultimately, true entrepreneurial achievement is measured not just by growth, but by the culture you cultivate, the impact your business creates, and the lasting legacy it establishes on a global stage.
