Nearly 60% of the 50 million traffic accidents that occur worldwide each year are caused by two-wheelers, and in 2022, more than 1.68 lakh persons died in traffic accidents in India alone. By incorporating AI-powered safety technologies into two-wheelers, Bengaluru-based firm BYTES is taking a revolutionary move in response to this pressing issue. In keeping with its goal of making roadways safer for cyclists, the firm has received a non-dilutive grant of INR 20 Lakh from Nikhil Kamath’s WTFund.

Meet BYTES: The AI-Driven Safety Innovators

BYTES, which was established in August 2024 by Prakhar Agrawal and Aayush Kumar, is committed to using artificial intelligence to stop mishaps before they happen. In order to help riders avoid possible collisions, its flagship technology, an AI-driven Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), anticipates and recognizes high-risk situations in real time.

BYTES seeks to close this gap by providing real-time assistance that improves rider awareness and reaction times, as human error accounts for 90% of all accidents and the absence of strong safety features raises the chance of fatalities by 40%.

How BYTES’ AI-Powered ADAS Works

While advanced safety systems have been widely adopted in four-wheelers, the two-wheeler segment remains largely untapped. BYTES is changing that with its AI-based vision intelligence system.

Here’s how it works:

Real-Time Hazard Detection: The AI system continuously analyzes the rider’s surroundings, identifying potential hazards such as sudden lane changes, incoming vehicles, and road obstructions.

Collision Prevention Alerts: If a high-risk situation is detected, the system instantly alerts the rider, enabling quicker reaction times to prevent accidents.

Predictive Analytics: The AI continuously learns from riding patterns and road conditions, improving its accuracy over time to enhance safety.

Pilot Programs and Industry Partnerships

BYTES is starting pilot projects with top two-wheeler original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in an effort to make its technology widely available. Before expanding operations, the business will be able to test and improve its safety system under real-world situations.

Additionally, BYTES is preparing for quick growth as a pre-seed investment round is about to close. Like ABS (Anti-lock Braking Systems) has become today, the startup’s goal is to make AI-driven accident prevention a commonplace feature of two-wheelers.

Why AI in Two-Wheeler Safety is a Game-Changer

Despite the rising adoption of safety features in motorcycles, most advancements have focused on braking and traction control rather than predictive accident prevention. AI-powered safety systems like BYTES’ ADAS can significantly reduce fatalities and injuries by assisting riders in real time.

India, which has one of the highest road accident death rates in the world, is in dire need of such innovations. Government data indicates that over 4.6 lakh road accidents occurred in India in 2022, and AI-based interventions could be crucial in bringing these numbers down.

The Growing Ecosystem of Road Safety Startups

BYTES is not alone in its mission to improve road safety. Other startups, such as Netradyne, have developed AI-powered solutions that analyze driver behavior to reduce errors and prevent accidents. Last month, Netradyne became the first unicorn of 2025 in the Indian startup ecosystem, proving that AI-driven safety solutions have significant market potential.

With increasing awareness and investment in automotive safety tech, BYTES is well-positioned to make a meaningful impact in the two-wheeler segment.

WTFund’s Role in Supporting Young Founders

Nikhil Kamath, a co-founder of Zerodha, has chosen nine startups, including BYTES, for the second batch of WTFund. The WTFund provides funding, coaching, strategic collaborations, and marketing help to young Indian startups under the age of twenty-five. WTFund offers non-dilutive finance, which allows entrepreneurs to concentrate on expansion without sacrificing ownership, in contrast to typical investments.

It is anticipated that BYTES will expand and bring its safety solutions to market more quickly thanks to its network of seasoned businesspeople and access to industry information.

Conclusion: A Safer Future for Two-Wheeler Riders

AI-driven solutions like BYTES’ ADAS have the potential to revolutionize the two-wheeler sector as the need for safer and smarter mobility increases. BYTES is working to save lives by making two-wheeler riding safer and more intelligent, with the help of the WTFund, OEM pilot programs, and an upcoming pre-seed investment round.

If BYTES is effective, it might raise the bar for motorcycle safety and make AI-powered accident avoidance a necessary component of every ride. This may mark the beginning of a safer driving future for both India and the rest of the world.
