Television’s best shows and stars were celebrated at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Monday night. The Emmys, which started in 1949, are the most prestigious awards in the TV industry. Anthony Anderson, the star of “Black-ish”, was the host for the first time.
“Succession”, the acclaimed drama about a media dynasty, dominated the night with 27 nominations and six wins, including its third consecutive award for outstanding drama series. Matthew Macfayden, Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin won Emmys for their roles on the show.

Outstanding Comedy Series: “The Bear”
“The Bear” won its first Emmy for outstanding comedy series, beating out “Barry”, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, “Ted Lasso”, and “Wednesday”. The FX show, created by and starring Jeremy Allen White, follows a young woman who moves in with her estranged father and his new family. The show mixes family drama and comedy, as it explores the relationships and conflicts between the characters.
Outstanding Drama Series: “Succession”
“Succession” won its third Emmy for outstanding drama series, beating out “Andor”, “Bad Sisters”, “Better Call Saul”, “The Last of Us”, and “The White Lotus”. The HBO show, created by Jesse Armstrong and starring Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong, follows the power struggles and scandals of a media mogul and his family.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Steven Yeun, “Beef”
Steven Yeun won his first Emmy for his role as David, a mild-mannered and frustrated office worker, in the Netflix limited series “Beef”. Yeun, who also created and executive produced the show, gave a funny and relatable performance, as he played David’s involvement in a road rage incident and a feud with a stranger. “Beef” is a comedy-drama that follows two people who let a road rage incident burrow into their minds and slowly consume their every thought and action
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Ali Wong, “Beef”
Ali Wong won her first Emmy for her role as Jen, a fiery and unhappy nurse, in the Netflix limited series “Beef”. Wong, who also created and executive produced the show, gave a hilarious and authentic performance, as she played Jen’s involvement in a road rage incident and a feud with a stranger.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Jeremy Allen White, “Beef”
Jeremy Allen White won his first Emmy for his role as Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, a talented but troubled chef who returns to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop, in the FX comedy-drama series “The Bear”. White, who is also the creator and executive producer of the show, delivered a witty and heartfelt performance, as he explored the relationships and conflicts between his character and his estranged daughter, his new wife and stepchildren, his uncle, and his employees.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
Quinta Brunson, “Abbott Elementary”
Quinta Brunson made history as the first Black woman to win the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, for her role as Janine Teagues, a dedicated and optimistic teacher at a low-income public school, in the ABC sitcom “Abbott Elementary”.
Brunson, who also created and executive produced the show, was praised for her charismatic and hilarious performance, as well as for her representation of Black women in comedy. Brunson thanked her cast, crew, and fans in her acceptance speech, and dedicated the award to her late father.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
Ayo Edibiri, “The Bear”
Ayo Edibiri won her first Emmy for her role as Nora, a young woman who moves in with her estranged father and his new family, in the FX comedy series “The Bear”. Edibiri, who is also a writer and comedian, brought humor and heart to the show, which was created by and starred Jeremy Allen White.
Edibiri beat out some tough competition, including two co-stars from “Ted Lasso” and two co-stars from “Abbott Elementary”.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
Jennifer Coolidge, “The White Lotus”
Jennifer Coolidge won her first Emmy for her role as Tanya McQuoid, a wealthy and lonely woman who goes on a vacation to a Hawaiian resort, in the HBO miniseries “The White Lotus”. Coolidge, who is best known for her comedic roles in movies like “Legally Blonde” and “American Pie”, showed her dramatic range and depth in the show, which was created by Mike White.
Coolidge delivered a memorable and nuanced performance, as she portrayed Tanya’s grief, vulnerability, and eccentricity.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
Matthew Macfayden, “Succession”
Matthew Macfayden won his second Emmy for his role as Tom Wambsgans, the ambitious and loyal husband of Shiv Roy, in the HBO drama series “Succession”. Macfayden, who also won last year for the same role, impressed the critics and the viewers with his portrayal of Tom’s complex and conflicted character, as he navigated the power struggles and scandals of the Roy family.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:
Ebon Moss-Bachrach, “The Bear”
Ebon Moss-Bachrach won his first Emmy for his role as Eli, a struggling musician and the best friend of Nora, in the FX comedy series “The Bear”. Moss-Bachrach, who is also a musician in real life, brought charm and humor to the show, as he played Eli’s awkward and endearing interactions with Nora and her family.
