Lead writer Bartosz Sztybor teased the upcoming season with a dark sense of humor, quipping, “Don’t get too excited, David’s dead.” He added that the next installment would be “sadder, darker, and more bloody,” setting the tone for a narrative that delves even deeper into the underbelly of Night City.
Returning director Kai Ikarashi and Sztybor will continue shaping the show’s vision, though details about the rest of the returning creative team remain under wraps.
A Shift in Focus: New Faces in a Familiar World
One key revelation from the panel was that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 will likely not follow the original cast, particularly beloved characters like Lucy and David. Instead, the show is aiming to introduce a younger, fresher set of characters, expanding the universe while retaining its emotional core.
Though some fans may feel conflicted about the absence of the original protagonists, CD Projekt Red producer Satoru Honma had previously hinted that the world of Cyberpunk is rich enough to support entirely new narratives. “Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different,” Honma had said in a past interview. In a surprise move, Kadokawa has stealth-released a prequel manga titled “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness,“ further expanding the narrative universe.
