Dyson PencilVac Goes on Sale in the U.S. $600 Price Tag

After months of anticipation and releases in other markets, the Dyson PencilVac cordless vacuum is now officially available for purchase in the United States. The ultra-slim stick vacuum carries a retail price around $600, positioning it in the premium segment of home cleaning tools. Dyson promotes the PencilVac as the “world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner,” a bold engineering claim supported by its unusually narrow profile and innovative design.

This launch completes Dyson’s global rollout, following earlier availability in regions such as Japan, parts of Europe, and the UK over the past year, with varying prices but similar positioning in the top-end cordless category.

What sets the PencilVac apart from other Dyson cordless vacuums such as the V-series or Omni-glide models is its exceptionally slender profile. The entire vacuum is essentially shaped like a long stick, with the main components motor, battery, dust cup, and filters contained inside a slim 38 mm-diameter handle. This translates to a device that feels more like a broom than a traditional vacuum cleaner, giving it a distinctly minimalist aesthetic.

Despite its slim stature, Dyson did not compromise on engineering: the motor inside known as the Hyperdymium 140k is both small and fast, spinning at high revolutions to generate approximately 55 air watts of suction in a package much thinner than conventional stick vacs.

Four Conical “Fluffycones” for Hair and Debris Handling

A legacy Dyson innovation the cleaner head was redesigned for PencilVac. Instead of traditional brush heads, Dyson equipped the vacuum with four conical brush cones (often referred to as “Fluffycones™”) arranged in two pairs that rotate in opposite directions. This configuration is meant to strip debris and hair from floors while reducing hair tangles around the brush bars, a common pain point in traditional vacuums.

Because the cones are designed to reach right up to baseboards and edges, the PencilVac is particularly adept at cleaning hard floors and tight corners where dust often hides. Green LED illumination on both the front and rear of the head highlights unseen dust, further improving cleaning visibility.

Performance and Practicality: Suction, Surfaces, and Limitations

Although Dyson’s engineering squeezes traditional vacuum components into a very narrow package, the PencilVac’s performance is best suited to specific use-cases rather than every surface. Recent hands-on impressions and reviews from outlets like Business Insider and TechRadar point out that while the PencilVac delivers strong suction for everyday debris on hard floors, it isn’t as powerful on deep carpets, a consequence of its slender head and relatively modest suction rating compared with Dyson’s larger models.

Because it is so lightweight and narrow, maneuverability is a major strong point: the PencilVac can easily glide forward and backward, turn in tight spots, and reach under low furniture thanks to its slim form and flattening ability. This makes it ideal for daily tidying and cleaning in apartments or smaller living spaces but users with mostly carpeted homes may find more robust options preferable.

Battery Life, App Connectivity, and Accessories

In terms of runtime, the PencilVac delivers up to around 30 minutes of suction on a single charge under standard usage typical for high-end cordless vacuums of this size with a swappable battery pack allowing users to extend cleaning time by swapping in a second battery if needed.

Dyson also built MyDyson app connectivity into the PencilVac, a first for the company’s cordless line. This lets users monitor battery life, receive maintenance alerts, and adjust settings from a smartphone, adding a layer of smart functionality that many users value in premium home appliances.

The vacuum ships with a magnetic charging dock that doubles as a storage station, encouraging quick grab-and-go cleaning. Standard accessory tools include a combi-crevice nozzle for tight spaces and a separate conical hair-handling tool for upholstery, stairs, and furniture.

The PencilVac’s dust bin holds just 0.08 L of debris, a trade-off typical of ultra-compact vacuums. To make the most of this small volume, Dyson engineered a two-stage linear dust separation system that captures 99.99 % of particles down to 0.3 microns and compresses the collected debris.

The hygienic bin ejection system uses a syringe-style action that plunges dust deep into the container while wiping the shroud clean in one motion minimizing contact with debris and simplifying the emptying process.

At a $600 price point in the U.S., the Dyson PencilVac is clearly aimed at the premium segment of cordless vacuums, a category that values innovation, convenience, and design as much as outright cleaning power.

While more traditional Dyson stick vacuums like the V15 or V16 variants typically offer stronger suction and larger dust bins with broader surface compatibility, the PencilVac’s unique selling proposition is its ultra-slim profile, specialized hair handling, and elegant form factor. This makes it attractive for users prioritizing everyday maintenance, hard floor cleaning, and ergonomic design over maximum performance on deep carpets.

Before its U.S. release, the PencilVac was already launched in markets such as

European pre-orders have begun in countries like Germany, with early shipping dates set in late 2025, while global availability is expected to expand through 2026.

Who Should Consider the PencilVac?

The Dyson PencilVac is ideal for:

  • Hard floor households where debris and dust are more superficial
  • Smaller living spaces that benefit from a lightweight, easy-to-store vacuum
  • Users who appreciate innovative design and app connectivity
  • Those who clean frequently and want a tool for quick daily maintenance

However, it may not be the best choice for those whose primary focus is heavy carpet cleaning or heavy debris pickup, where more powerful Dyson models with larger cleaner heads and suction ratings typically excel.

The Dyson PencilVac marks an intriguing evolution in cordless vacuum design blending extreme slimness, smart features, and clever engineering into a stick vacuum that’s as easy to wield as it is striking in appearance. At around $600 in the U.S., it stands above basic cordless vacuums in price, but its niche is clear: a stylish, high-end, everyday cleaning companion that redefines what a stick vacuum can look like in 2026.
