Ford Expands BlueCruise Hands-Free System to More Models in Europe by 2026

Ford Motor Co. is widening the reach of its BlueCruise hands-free driver-assist technology across Europe, marking another step in the intensifying race toward partial vehicle autonomy. The company announced Thursday that the system will be rolled out to four additional models starting in spring 2026, significantly broadening its availability beyond the Mustang Mach-E, where it debuted in the region in 2023.

A Wider Rollout Across Key Models

The models set to receive BlueCruise include the Ford Puma, the next-generation Puma Gen-E, the Kuga, and the Ranger Plug-In Hybrid. By adding the system to both high-volume crossovers and a popular utility truck, Ford is signaling its intent to integrate advanced driver assistance not just in premium cars but across mainstream segments.

“With BlueCruise now available on five vehicle lines in Europe, we’re helping make hands-free highway driving accessible to a wider array of customers,” said Torsten Wey, Manager of ADAS Features and Software for Ford in Europe.

What BlueCruise Brings to the Road

BlueCruise is Ford’s Level 2 driver-assist suite designed for approved motorways known as Blue Zones. On these stretches, drivers can take their hands off the steering wheel while the system manages steering, lane positioning, braking, acceleration, and distance from the vehicle ahead.

It relies on a combination of radar, cameras, and real-time monitoring of road markings, speed limits, and evolving traffic flow. While the system can handle both cruising speeds and stop-and-go congestion, it continues to require the driver’s attention, enforced by an interior camera that tracks eye and head movement.

To date, Ford and Lincoln vehicles have collectively logged more than 552 million miles using the technology worldwide.

BlueCruise covers 16 European markets and gives drivers access to one of the widest hands-free highway networks offered by any automaker.

Reinforcing Ford’s European Footprint

Ford’s expansion of BlueCruise comes as the company works to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive European market. From January through September 2025, Ford registered 326,985 vehicles across the EU, EFTA, and the UK. That performance translated to a 3.3 percent market share, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

While Ford trails major European players such as Volkswagen and Stellantis, its numbers stand comfortably ahead of other international competitors, including Tesla and BYD a sign that the brand retains considerable influence in the region’s legacy and fleet-heavy markets.

Market Sentiment Remains Muted

Despite the announcement, early retail investor sentiment hasn’t shown a noticeable boost. On Stocktwits, a platform popular with retail traders, sentiment toward Ford shares remained in bearish territory over the past 24 hours. Message volume also stayed low, suggesting traders are waiting to see whether expanded ADAS capabilities will translate into meaningful financial momentum.

The Road Ahead

Ford’s move to broaden BlueCruise availability reflects a clear shift in strategy: advanced driver assistance is no longer a luxury-segment differentiator but a baseline expectation for future-ready cars. As Europe pushes toward stricter safety and automation standards, Ford is positioning itself to stay in the conversation not just with EVs, but with technology that reshapes how people drive on a daily basis.
