Ford Motor Company has announced the opening of its new global headquarters, the Henry Ford II World Center, at the heart of its modernized product development campus in Dearborn. The new facility, set to open officially in November, marks one of the most significant transformations in the automaker’s 122-year history.
For nearly seven decades, Ford’s iconic “Glass House” towered as the symbol of its global reach. Now, the company is pivoting toward a new physical and cultural hub designed for the speed, flexibility, and collaboration required in a software-driven auto industry.
Built for Scale and Speed
The new headquarters is twice the size of the Glass House and has been built to accommodate double the workforce. Once construction is fully complete in 2027, the building will host up to 4,000 employees, with another 10,000 staff working in adjacent buildings within a 15-minute walk.
The consolidated campus brings engineering, design, and corporate leadership under one roof, with the explicit goal of accelerating product development and problem-solving. The space is equipped with advanced collaboration tools, flexible layouts, and technology infrastructure to support hybrid work and rapid innovation cycles.
“This is more than a building,” a company spokesperson said. “It’s a catalyst for Ford+, and a symbol of how we intend to win in a new era of connected, electrified, and software-led mobility.”
Honoring the Past, Preparing for the Future
While Ford looks ahead, the legacy of the Glass House remains central to the company’s identity. The building, officially known as the Ford World Headquarters, has been a recognizable landmark since 1956.
As employees transition to the new campus, the Glass House will be sustainably decommissioned and demolished over 18 months. Ford is working with the City of Dearborn to repurpose the site in ways that benefit both employees and the surrounding community. Specific plans are expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
A Broader Commitment to People and Places
The Henry Ford II World Center is part of a global investment strategy aimed at reshaping how Ford employees work and how customers experience the brand. Beyond Dearborn, the company is upgrading offices, manufacturing facilities, and dealer locations worldwide.
“Our people are our greatest asset,” the company emphasized in a statement. “We’re making sure they have world-class spaces, modern tools, and the right technology to do their best work. That commitment extends from our engineering hubs to our factory floors, and from our headquarters to the showrooms where customers meet Ford every day.”
Opening Doors to the Community
The new headquarters will officially open its doors this November. Employees across functions will be invited to work, collaborate, and connect in the space. Ford also plans to host public tours, positioning the building as both a workplace and a community landmark.
For Ford, the move is more than symbolic. It represents a company intent on reinventing itself in the face of rapid technological change, while staying rooted in Dearborn. As one executive put it:
“We’re not just building the next generation of vehicles, we’re building the next generation of Ford.”
