With over a million merchants onboarded and recent recognition from the RBI as a licensed Payment Aggregator, the company is redefining what it means to go digital for India’s Tier 2, Tier 3, and rural entrepreneurs. In this exclusive conversation, we dive deep into the journey, innovations, and vision of Getepay.
1. What inspired you to start Getepay, and how has the company’s mission evolved since its inception in 2016?
The idea for Getepay came from first-hand observation during my working stint. I have seen very closely how hardworking local businesses struggle with adopting digital solutions , not because they lack intent, but because the tools aren’t available to them easily.
Getepay was created to solve that , to make digital payments simple, affordable, and truly accessible to merchants in Bharat. Over the years, our mission has evolved from just enabling transactions to becoming a full-fledged digital business enabler. Today, we don’t just help small merchants accept payments , we help them go digital, manage customers, track growth and business tools. Our aim is to be the digital backbone for millions of small businesses across India.
2. You recently received final RBI authorization to operate as a Payment Aggregator. What does this milestone mean for Getepay and its merchants?
This is a very important milestone , not just for us but for the 1 million+ merchants who trust us. The RBI Payment Aggregator license is a validation of our processes, governance, and commitment to responsible innovation. It ensures we operate under strict compliance and security standards, which builds greater trust across the ecosystem.
For our merchants, this means faster onboarding, more direct integrations, and a regulated environment that protects their money and their data. It also gives us the freedom to innovate faster and offer more value-added services on top of core payments.
3. Getepay is built with a “Bharat-first” approach. How does the platform specifically cater to the needs of Tier 2, Tier 3, and rural entrepreneurs?
Bharat is not just a market for us , it’s the heart of our platform. We’ve taken a ground-up approach to product design. Our app supports multiple Indian languages, works smoothly in low-internet areas, and is intuitive even for first-time smartphone users with digital onboarding.
Many of our users are new to digital payments, So we include explainers, voice-based guidance, and real-time customer care. More than 70% of our active merchants are from Tier 2, Tier 3, and rural belts, this is where we believe the future of India’s digital economy lies.
4. With over 1 million merchants onboarded, can you share a success story that reflects Getepay’s grassroots impact?
Infact we have so many stories to tell, telling one instance will not be justice to those thousand stories. Someday will plan to tell the stories of those business who have built the real Bharat through some platform hopefully. We see our platform as an enabler ,the credit goes to the resilience and drive of these small business owners.
5. How does Getepay’s integrated platform go beyond payments to empower small businesses with tools like storefront creation, CRM, and analytics?
Our approach is simple: payments are the starting point, but growth happens when merchants have tools to manage and expand their business. On Getepay, users can create their own digital storefront , with zero coding or design needed , and share it over WhatsApp or SMS to start selling online instantly.
We also offer CRM features to help them track repeat customers, send offers, and build loyalty. Our in-built analytics give merchants insights like which products are selling most, what time of day sees the most transactions, and more. This kind of intelligence used to be available only to big retailers ,we’re making it accessible to every small shopkeeper.
6. What technological innovations have enabled Getepay to remain accessible and scalable across diverse geographies and user profiles?
We’ve built Getepay to be truly lightweight and scalable. We have tried to design our platform keeping customer ease in mind. We use cloud-native architecture that allows us to scale quickly and securely.
Our onboarding engine , it helps automate KYC, fraud detection, and risk profiling, cutting down onboarding time in minutes. Our transaction engine is makes transactions seamless, even in remote areas.
What really sets us apart is how we’ve combined technology with local presence , through community champions and agents who assist merchants in regional dialects.
7. What role has Virender Sehwag played as an investor and brand ambassador in enhancing Getepay’s visibility and trust among the masses?
Virender Sehwag’s association with Getepay has had a huge impact. He’s someone who embodies honesty, confidence, and a Bharat-rooted identity ,values we align with deeply. As a brand ambassador and investor, he brings unmatched visibility and trust, especially in small towns where credibility is key.
Our campaigns with him have helped us reach millions of merchants across Hindi-speaking belts and have accelerated adoption in key regions. His voice adds authenticity, and his presence has made our platform more relatable to the very entrepreneurs we aim to serve.
8. How is Getepay contributing to employment generation and financial inclusion in underserved regions?
Our platform creates impact at multiple levels. First, by digitizing small businesses, we help them grow and hire more people from delivery agents to assistants. Second, we run a network of onboarding partners, giving people in rural areas an opportunity to earn.
On the financial inclusion front, many of our merchants had never accepted a digital payment before joining us. Through UPI, banking offerings and access to financials tools, we are helping them build a digital financial identity that opens doors to the broader formal economy.
9. What are the next key growth milestones for Getepay, both in terms of product roadmap and market expansion?
We’re aiming to onboard 3 million merchants in the upcoming time, with a focus on deepening our presence in Tier 3 and 4 regions.
On the product side, we’re working on launching embedded business tools, voice commerce features for non-English users, and deeper integrations with accounting tools. We’re also exploring sector-specific solutions to help businesses scale their digital presence easily.
Beyond that, we’re looking at global expansion very soon in specific targeted markets where similar gaps exist in small business enablement.
10. If you had to summarize Getepay’s long-term vision in one sentence, what would it be?
To empower every small business in India with the tools, trust, and technology they need to succeed in the digital economy ; no matter where they come from.
Getepay is more than just a fintech platform—it’s a catalyst for change, pushing the boundaries of what small businesses in India can achieve with the right digital support.
