General Motors announces that the production of the Chevrolet Tracker SUV will begin next month in Argentina. GM senior vice President Shilpan Amin discussed the plans of production with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez. The meeting was in Los Angeles, where GM and the Argentine government discussed on further plans.

The Argentine government said, “The company’s goal is to export the new vehicle to other Latin American countries, mainly to Brazil and Colombia, where 80% of the production will be destined,”
Furthermore, the GM spokesman said that the meeting “was a good opportunity today to update the government of Argentina on the progress of this important program and the economic benefit it will deliver to the country.” IN 2017 GM announced that it is going to invest $300 million in its Argentina operations. A new Chevrolet model was to be built at its Alvear plant. It is located in Argentina’s northeastern Santa Fe province. Between 2014 and 2016, the automaker invests $740 million in the making of the plant.
In 2020 the Chevrolet Tracker production was announced and the exports also began the same year in Argentina. For the country boosting industrial exports was necessary as foreign currency was much needed. Central bank reserves had to shore up and took a hit from the inflation and exchange rate unpredictability.
GM production
GM is one of 12 companies building cars in Latin America’s third-largest economy. Automobile production grew by 33% in May compared with the same month last year, while exports soared 34%.
The Chevrolet Tracker is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors since 2019. Positioned as a successor to the Trax, it is produced in Brazil for the Latin American market. In China, it is produced by SAIC-GM for the Chinese market. The Global Emerging Markets (GEM) platform which the Chinese market Tracker was built was designed for developing automotive markets including China and Latin America. The Tracker launched in China in 2019 is one of the vehicles with the GEM platform and is likely not intended for the United States and Canada.
The Tracker in the Chinese market was revealed in 2019 alongside the Trailblazer. The Chinese-market Tracker was designed to replace the Trax in China and shares its Chinese name as the Trax. The Tracker made its Brazilian debut in 2020, with production commencing at the São Caetano do Sul assembly. GM then announced that the Tracker would arrive in Mexico to replace the first-generation Trax. The Tracker was unveiled in the Philippine market in July 2021 and is imported from China.
