Google’s highly anticipated August 20th Pixel launch event is drawing near, and with it, a surge of leaks is painting a clearer picture of the company’s hardware roadmap. Beyond the much-awaited Pixel 10 series smartphones, new information suggests that Google is preparing to unveil a suite of complementary Pixel accessories. These revelations include an exciting new affordable earbud offering, the Pixel Buds 2a, a dedicated Pixel Wireless Charger, and potentially new color options for the premium Pixel Buds Pro 2. This comprehensive accessory lineup points towards Google’s strategy of expanding and strengthening its hardware ecosystem.

Pixel Buds 2a: Google’s New Affordable Audio Offering

The primary highlight among the leaked accessories is the rumored Google Pixel Buds 2a. This new pair of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds is expected to serve as Google’s next affordable audio solution, likely succeeding the popular Pixel Buds A-Series. The A-Series, originally launched in June 2021, has been due for an update, and the “2a” moniker suggests a direct continuation of that budget-friendly lineage.

According to prominent tipster @MysteyLupin on X (formerly Twitter), the Pixel Buds 2a will be available in a vibrant selection of colors: Fog Light, Hazel Iris, and Strawberry. These more expressive color options could make the new earbuds more appealing to a wider audience, moving beyond the more neutral tones of previous A-Series models. While specific features and pricing remain under wraps, the “affordable” branding indicates that Google aims to offer a compelling audio experience at a competitive price point, making its ecosystem more accessible to a broader consumer base.

Pixel Buds Pro 2: A Sterling Addition to the Premium Line

For those seeking a more premium audio experience, the current top-tier Pixel Buds Pro 2 are also expected to receive an update, albeit a more subtle one. The leak indicates that Google will introduce a new Sterling color option for these high-end earbuds. Sterling is widely believed to be a sophisticated shade of grey, which would complement the existing color palette of Hazel, Porcelain, and Peony.

The Pixel Buds Pro 2, which originally launched in August 2024, are already known for their robust feature set, including active noise cancellation (ANC), spatial audio with head tracking, and deep integration with Google Assistant and Gemini AI. While this leak does not suggest any major internal hardware upgrades for the Pro 2, the introduction of a new color option indicates Google’s commitment to keeping its flagship audio product fresh and aligned with the aesthetic of its latest Pixel devices, particularly the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, which are also rumored to come in gray (Moonstone) and green (Jade) finishes.

New Charging Solutions: Pixel Charger and Wireless Charger

Beyond audio accessories, Google is also rumored to be expanding its charging solutions. The leak mentions a new Pixel Charger in a “Rock Candy” color. While the exact nature of this charger (e.g., wired, fast-charging capabilities) is not explicitly detailed, the unique color suggests it will likely be a new accessory designed to complement the Pixel 10 series aesthetic.

Perhaps more significantly, the leaks indicate the potential unveiling of a Pixel Wireless Charger. Recent reports suggest that Google is heavily investing in magnetic wireless charging technology for the Pixel 10 series, under the branding “Pixelsnap.” This new wireless charger could be Google’s answer to Apple’s MagSafe, offering a seamless and secure magnetic attachment for charging. Marketing materials have reportedly revealed that Google is working on a “Pixelsnap Charger,” a “Pixelsnap Charger with Stand,” and a “Pixelsnap Ring Stand.”5 The wireless charger itself is codenamed “STN4” and is expected to support Qi2.2 with Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), potentially enabling charging speeds of up to 60W, though Google might set its own limits.

This move to magnetic Qi2 wireless charging for the Pixel 10 series, coupled with a dedicated wireless charger, would be a major upgrade for Pixel users, offering enhanced convenience and potentially new “Hub Mode” functionalities where the phone acts as a smart display while charging.

The upcoming August Pixel launch event appears to be more than just a smartphone unveiling; it’s shaping up to be a showcase of Google’s expanding and increasingly integrated hardware ecosystem. The introduction of the affordable Pixel Buds 2a will cater to a broader market, while new color options for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 maintain the appeal of its premium audio line. The most impactful accessory, however, might be the new Pixel Wireless Charger, signaling Google’s full embrace of magnetic Qi2 charging and its potential “Pixelsnap” ecosystem. These new accessories, alongside the highly anticipated Pixel 10 series, underscore Google’s ambition to offer a comprehensive and seamlessly connected experience across its device portfolio.
