Discord has emerged as the preferred medium for professionals, communities, and gamers alike. Even while most users are accustomed to the regular notification sounds, many would like to customize their experience by having something else play when the alert comes in. We’ll walk you through how to edit the Discord notification sound in 2024 in this post, along with some other customization options.

KEYPOINTS: To accomplish this, navigate to Settings > Notifications > Notification Sounds, then click “Upload Custom Sound.” – Visual Notifications: Discord also provides visual alerts, which include badge displays and the Discord window blinking.

Is It Possible to Customise Discord’s Native Notification Sound?

Discord does not currently have a built-in feature that allows users to customise each notification sound within the app as of 2024. You can, however, control the volume and disable specific kinds of notifications. Users frequently rely on operating system settings or third-party programs for complete customisation.

How-To: Adjusting the Volume of Discord Notifications

To modify the notification loudness instead of the sound itself, use the following actions:

  1. Launch Discord: Open the Discord application on your mobile or desktop computer.
  2. Access User Settings: To access User Settings, click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner next to your username.
  3. Go to Notifications: Scroll down to the Notifications menu on the left and click on it.
  4. Modify the Alert Sound: You can use the sound slider in this section to control the notification volume. You can also disable specific notification types, like as calls, message sounds, and desktop notifications.

Note: Discord does not provide direct options for changing the sound; it simply allows you to toggle certain noises on or off.

How to Change Discord Notification Sounds via Operating System

If you want to change notification sounds globally on your device, this can be done through your operating system’s sound settings. This approach allows you to modify how Discord alerts you for notifications across your system.

On Windows 11:

  • Open Windows Settings
  • Click on the Start Menu and choose Settings (the gear icon).
  • Navigate to System Sounds
  • Select System and then click on Sound from the options.
  • Go to Sound Control Panel
  • Scroll down and click on More sound settings.

Customize App Sounds: In the Sound Control Panel, click on the Sounds tab. Scroll through the list of programs until you find Discord (or general notification settings if Discord isn’t listed separately).

  • Change Notification Sound
  • Select the desired sound from the dropdown or browse to upload a custom sound file (.wav format).
  • Apply Changes
  • Once you’ve selected your new sound, click Apply, then OK to confirm.

On macOS:

  • Open System Preferences
  • Click the Apple menu in the upper-left corner and choose System Preferences.
  • Select Sound
  • In the Sound section, click on the Sound Effects tab.

Customize Notification Sounds: Scroll through the available sound effects and choose one to replace the default notification sounds.

Note: macOS doesn’t allow direct customization for Discord sounds, but you can change system-wide notification sounds that may affect Discord.

Utilising Outside Software to Achieve Complete Customisation

Third-party applications can be utilised by users who need more precise control over Discord’s notification sounds. You may alter your Discord sounds and achieve advanced sound customisation with programs like BetterDiscord or Resanance:

  1. BetterDiscord: A plugin that enhances the Discord client with extra features including personalised themes and sounds is called BetterDiscord. To change the notification sounds, download and install custom plugins.
  2. Resanance: Resanance is a Discord-compatible soundboard program. It gives you an artistic way to alter the sounds by enabling you to attach unique sound effects to Discord events.

Be cautious: Discord’s terms of service may occasionally be broken by using third-party applications. When utilising external tools, always use caution and make sure they adhere to Discord’s rules.

In summary

Even if as of 2024 Discord won’t support customising notification sounds natively, there are still a number of ways to customise your experience. For more extensive customisation, you can use third-party tools, change system noises via your OS, and change the notification loudness within Discord. These techniques can assist you in customising Discord alerts to your preference, whether you’re looking for little tweaks or a whole audio makeover.
