Can see a lot of YouTube cache on your iPhone? Follow the guide to know how you can clear this cache in a few minutes. We shall see the steps for it and make some room on the device. So, let’s get started.
What is cache on YouTube?
To understand it better, one can say that it is merely a “short-term memory” of the app or the platform. It’s a dedicated storage space on your phone or computer where YouTube keeps temporary files. This can be small things like snippets of video you’ve recently watched, thumbnails, and other similar elements. Now why does it happen? It usually happens when instead of downloading the same “Subscribe” button or video preview every single time you open the app, your device pulls them instantly from the cache and reduces the time of following the same process. It saves data and makes browsing feel better. However, it is healthier to not let the cache build up for long, as it impacts the working of the app.
Steps to clear the YouTube cache
If you want to clear the YouTube cache, these are the steps that you can follow.
For Android
If you have an Android device, you can simply go to your phone’s Settings, tap on Apps, and find YouTube in the list. Now tap on Storage & Cache, then hit the Clear Cache button. Avoid “Clear Data” as it often erases the important data as well, and can even log you out.
For iPhone Users
This can seem slightly trickier compared to the working of an Android. Apple doesn’t have a “Clear Cache” button for individual apps, so you may have to find a workaround. The best thing you can do is to offload the App. Just go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > YouTube and tap on Offload App. This deletes the temporary cache, if there is one, but keeps your login info. You can then just click on “Reinstall”.
For Web Browser
If you use a browser to do so, you can do it too. If YouTube is slow on your computer, you’ll need to clear your browser’s “Cookies and Cached Images.” In Chrome, click on the three dots in the corner, go to Clear Browsing Data, and make sure “Cached images and files” is checked before choosing to click on “Clear data.”
Refresh
While not always, sometimes just closing the app completely and restarting your device does clear out some temporary glitches or sluggishness.
These are the ways that you can follow to clear the YouTube cache, depending on the device or the method you use.
