What is App Tracking on an iPhone?

It is no less than leaving some footprints behind you and being able to be traced online.  On an iPhone, it refers to an app’s ability to follow your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. There is an entire marketing chain working behind it. Usually, they do this to build a profile of your interests so they can serve you targeted ads or sell your data to third parties. This is passive good to have some relevant ads on your browsers and more. However, it is like a breach of privacy that you can considerably stop. Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) puts you in control of the matter. Whenever a new app wants to keep a track, you are asked if you want it to do so. If you say no, the app loses access to your phone’s unique ID, essentially stopping it from tracking you from there.

Steps to stop app tracking on an iPhone

If you want an app to stop tracking on an iPhone, then these are the steps that you can follow.

The Control Room

You have to go to the control room to fix this. So, head into your Settings app, scroll down to Privacy & Security, and tap on Tracking. At the very top, you’ll see “Allow Apps to Request to Track.” If you toggle this one OFF, the pop-ups won’t be troubling you anymore. It nips the problem in the bud by acting at the roots.

Audit Your Current Apps

On that same Tracking screen, you’ll see a list of every app that has already asked for permission. This is like assessing what you have already given access to. You can go down the menu and toggle off any app that you previously allowed but have since changed your mind about.

Check the “Privacy Report”

This is another helpful method. If you want to see who has been the most annoying about it, just go back to Privacy & Security and tap App Privacy Report. This shows you exactly which domains your apps are acting the most in the background and sharing the information.

Reset Your ID

If you’ve allowed tracking in the past and want a fresh page to begin with, you can technically “Reset Your Advertising Identifier” by toggling the main switch off and on. This is the farthest a user can go in the matter, as it can be fixed by just following the first method.
