About Riolu
Riolu is a cute and pretty Fighting-type Baby Pokémon, often called with the other name of “Emanation Pokémon.” It’s a little blue creature that looks like a dog, and is known for its strong will and ability to sense auras, which lets it perceive the emotions of people and other Pokémon. If you want to, Riolu evolves into the Fighting/Steel-type Lucario. But there is a specific method to evolve it. To make this happen, you need to level it up during the day once it has a high Friendship level with you. That’s when you have the best probability of having it evolved. We shall see the steps to do this in an upcoming section.
Where is Riolu found?
You will have to push a bit if you want to find Riolu. It is a bit sneaky in Legends: Z-A and you won’t just find it wandering in the main Wild Zones like most Pokémon usually do.
You’ll have to be precise and look around. You will however usually find it on the rooftops across Lumiose City. If you want a more precise location then we can delve a little deeper. You are supposed to find it on the roof of the Passage Ombrage shopping center in the Rouge Sector 4 region. But it has its own preferences. It only seems to show up during the daytime and mostly when the weather is sunny, either catch when the time and the weather are that way, or just adjust the time around the bench.
Steps to evolve Riolu in Legends Z-A
Now let us break down the steps to understand the process a bit better.
Boost Friendship
Riolu evolves when it has a high friendship level with the player seeking it. The fastest way to increase this is by visiting a café in Lumiose City and having a drink with it. It is a really sweet gesture and can help you boost real quick. Repeat this a few times for better results.
Hold a Soothe Bell
This is optional but can push your chances. If you have a Soothe Bell, which is obtained from Side Mission 36, it will increase the friendship really fast.
Keep it in Your Party
Spend more time with them to improve the bond. Having Riolu in your active party and using it in battles or to break objects around the city also increases your bond and thus, you can evolve it faster. Once Riolu’s friendship is high enough, a glowing “Evolve” arrow will appear next to its portrait in the party menu and you will know that it’s finally time.
Manually Evolve Riolu
Once you see the sign, select Riolu from your party screen and choose the “Evolve” option to trigger the evolution into Lucario.
This will do the job! And you’ll have an evolved version of Riolu right by your side.
