If you use Discord regularly, you may have come across the frustrating “Awaiting Endpoint” error while trying to join a voice channel. This issue can stop you from connecting to calls, gaming sessions, or meetings, which can be extremely annoying. The good news is that this problem is usually easy to fix once you understand what causes it.

What Does “Awaiting Endpoint” Mean?

When Discord shows “Awaiting Endpoint,” it means your app is trying to connect to a voice server but is unable to establish a proper connection. In simple terms, Discord is waiting for a response from the server, but something is blocking or delaying the process.

This issue can happen due to problems with your internet connection, Discord’s servers, or even your device settings.

Common Causes Of The Error

Understanding the root cause can help you fix the issue faster. Here are the most common reasons:

  • Slow or unstable internet connection

  • Temporary Discord server issues

  • Incorrect voice region settings

  • VPN or firewall interference

  • Outdated Discord app

  • Network restrictions from your ISP

Each of these can interrupt the connection between your device and Discord’s voice servers.

Check Your Internet Connection First

Before trying anything complex, start with the basics. A weak or unstable connection is often the main reason behind this error.

Try these quick steps:

  • Restart your router

  • Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data

  • Run a speed test to check stability

  • Move closer to your router

If your connection improves, the error may disappear immediately.

Restart Discord Completely

Sometimes, the issue is just a temporary glitch. Restarting Discord can refresh the connection and fix the problem.

Close the app fully, making sure it is not running in the background. Then open it again and try joining the voice channel.

If you are using Discord in a browser, refresh the page or restart your browser.

Change The Voice Region

Discord servers use different voice regions. If the current region is having issues, switching to another one can solve the problem.

To change the region:

  • Go to your server settings

  • Open the voice channel settings

  • Select a different region manually

Pick a region that is closest to your location for the best performance.

Disable VPN Or Proxy

VPNs can sometimes interfere with Discord’s ability to connect to voice servers. If you are using a VPN, try turning it off temporarily.

Some VPNs block certain ports that Discord needs, which can lead to the “Awaiting Endpoint” error.

If disabling the VPN fixes the issue, consider switching to a more compatible service or using Discord without it.

Check Firewall And Antivirus Settings

Your firewall or antivirus software may block Discord’s connection without you realizing it.

To fix this:

  • Add Discord as an exception in your firewall

  • Temporarily disable antivirus software to test

  • Make sure Discord is allowed to access the internet

Be careful when changing security settings, and always re-enable protection after testing.

Update Discord To The Latest Version

Using an outdated version of Discord can cause connection issues. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.

To update Discord:

  • Restart the app to trigger automatic updates

  • Download the latest version from the official source

  • Reinstall the app if needed

Keeping your app updated ensures smoother performance.

Flush Your DNS Cache

Your DNS cache stores network information, but it can sometimes become outdated or corrupted. Flushing it can help resolve connection issues.

Here is how you can do it on Windows:

  • Open Command Prompt

  • Type “ipconfig /flushdns”

  • Press Enter

This clears old network data and allows your system to fetch fresh information.

Try Using A Different Network

If none of the above solutions work, your current network may be the problem. Some networks restrict certain types of traffic, including voice connections.

Switch to a different network, such as mobile data or another Wi-Fi connection, and test Discord again.

If it works on another network, your original connection may have restrictions that need to be addressed.

Check Discord Server Status

Sometimes, the problem is not on your side at all. Discord servers may be experiencing downtime or technical issues.

In such cases, the best option is to wait until the issue is resolved. These outages are usually temporary and fixed quickly.

Reinstall Discord As A Last Resort

If nothing else works, reinstalling Discord can fix deeper issues. This removes corrupted files and resets the app completely.

Steps to reinstall:

  • Uninstall Discord from your device

  • Download the latest version

  • Install and log in again

This often solves persistent problems that other methods cannot fix.
