Subnautica 2 throws players into another deep and mysterious underwater world where exploration, survival, and resource gathering drive almost everything you do. Some materials are easy to locate near the starting areas, while others only begin appearing after you move deeper into dangerous territory. One of those important resources is Atacamite.

At first, Atacamite may not seem very important. You can spend many hours gathering common resources and progressing through the game without thinking about it. Eventually, however, you will reach a point where this green crystal becomes a key material for progression. Knowing where to find it and how to gather it efficiently can save you a huge amount of time later.

This guide explains exactly how to get Atacamite in Subnautica 2 and how to farm it without wasting effort.

What Is Atacamite In Subnautica 2?

Atacamite is a mineral resource found in deeper sections of the game world. It appears as dark green crystal formations attached to rocky surfaces and seabeds. Unlike common materials such as quartz or titanium, Atacamite does not show up in beginner areas.

The resource becomes important because it is used for crafting several advanced items and progression materials.

Some important uses include:

  • Creating Mangalloy Ingots
  • Building Metal Farms
  • Repairing the Alien Power Plant
  • Crafting the Ultra High Capacity Air Tank

Because of these later requirements, collecting extra Atacamite early is a smart decision.

Requirements Before Searching For Atacamite

You cannot simply swim from your starting area and expect to grab Atacamite immediately. The material exists at greater depths where preparation matters.

Before beginning your search, try to have:

  • Sonic Resonator tool
  • Tadpole with Depth Module Mk.1
  • Upgraded oxygen capacity
  • Rebreather equipment
  • Medical supplies
  • Enough inventory space

The Sonic Resonator is especially important because larger deposits require it for mining. Without it, you may miss valuable resource clusters.

The depth upgrade for the Tadpole also makes exploration safer and easier. Swimming long distances without vehicle support can become risky once oxygen levels begin dropping.

Where To Find Atacamite

Atacamite generally starts appearing below approximately 250 to 300 meters in depth. The best known farming areas are located around the Alien Ruins region.

A reliable route involves moving east or east-northeast from the Alien Ruins Research Base.

Follow these steps:

  1. Begin at the Alien Ruins Research Base
  2. Travel toward roughly seventy-five degrees on the compass
  3. Drop over the nearby cliff area
  4. Continue descending deeper
  5. Look for alien structures and sandy ground sections
  6. Search around nearby wreckage and crystal clusters

Once you arrive, look carefully around the seabed.

Atacamite normally appears as dark green columns sticking out from rocks. It stands out visually compared to nearby minerals, making identification fairly easy once you know what to look for.

Best Farming Strategy

Finding a single Atacamite crystal is useful, but gathering large amounts is far more efficient.

Instead of taking repeated trips, create a farming route.

A good approach is:

  • Park your Tadpole near safe depth limits
  • Swim toward dense crystal zones
  • Mine large deposits first
  • Gather smaller crystals afterward
  • Return once inventory fills up

Mining larger deposits gives better returns than collecting scattered pieces one by one.

If you clear an area carefully, a single run can provide enough materials for several future crafting requirements.

Do Not Waste Your Atacamite

One mistake many players make is immediately converting every piece of Atacamite into crafted materials.

This can become a problem later.

Subnautica 2 currently places greater value on certain late-game resources, and Atacamite becomes necessary for progression objectives. Using everything too early may force additional resource runs.

A better strategy is keeping extra supplies in storage.

Try to maintain:

  • A stack for immediate crafting
  • A backup reserve
  • Extra pieces for future farming systems

Having spare resources always helps during later stages of the game.
