Death Stranding 2: On the Beach throws players back into the shoes of Sam Bridges, a porter tasked with reconnecting a fractured world. One of the biggest challenges? Hauling massive amounts of cargo across treacherous terrain. Luckily, the Chiral Antigravity Device is a game-changer, making it easier to carry heavy loads without slowing down. But unlocking and using it isn’t always straightforward. Here’s everything you need to know to get your hands on this must-have backpack upgrade and make the most of its weight-reducing magic.

Imagine strapping a tiny piece of futuristic tech to your backpack that makes heavy cargo feel lighter. That’s exactly what the Chiral Antigravity Device does. It’s a craftable component that reduces the overall weight of your backpack, letting Sam carry more without sacrificing speed or balance. The best part? You can stack multiple devices for an even bigger boost, turning Sam into a walking freight train.
How to Unlock the Chiral Antigravity Device
Before you can start crafting, you’ll need to unlock the blueprint. Here’s how:
- Reach Connection Level 2 with the Government Base
The Government Base in Australia is your first major hub after the prologue. To increase your connection level, focus on completing main missions, turning in lost cargo, and fulfilling any Sub-Orders or Aid Requests tied to this facility. Reputation builds fast if you’re consistent, so keep checking the terminal for new tasks. - Grind Those Deliveries
Lost cargo scattered across the map is a quick way to earn favor. Grab anything labeled for the Government Base and deliver it. Side missions (Sub-Orders) also help, especially those ending at the facility. The more you contribute, the sooner you’ll hit Level 2 and unlock the device.
Crafting the Chiral Antigravity Device
Once unlocked, head to any facility terminal to craft it. Here’s the step-by-step:
- Open the Backpack Customization Menu
Interact with a terminal and navigate to Fabrication Management. Select Backpack Customization—this is where you’ll find all your mods. - Gather the Required Materials
Each device costs:- 100 Chiral Crystals
- 60 Chemicals
- 80 Special Alloys
- Chiral Crystals glow gold and are often found near BT territories or tar pits. Chemicals and Special Alloys are rewards for missions or found in supply crates. Showering in private rooms can also yield extra crystals, so don’t skip self-care!
- Attach It to Your Backpack
After crafting, place the device anywhere on your backpack. The position doesn’t affect performance, so arrange it however you like. Want to carry even more? Craft and attach additional devices—each one stacks, adding another 10 kg to your capacity.
Maximizing the Device’s Potential
- Stack for Heavy Hauls
Early-game inventory space is tight, but attaching two or three devices can double your carrying capacity. Just make sure you have enough backpack slots free. - Pair with Other Upgrades
Combine the device with exoskeletons like the Battle Skeleton (unlocked later) or Floating Carriers for insane loadouts. The Battle Skeleton alone adds 60 kg, and Floating Carriers let you tow extra cargo behind you. - Balance Your Load
Even with antigravity tech, packing too much can still throw Sam off-balance. Use the auto-sort feature in your cargo menu to optimize weight distribution, and secure wobbly stacks with the Strand rope to prevent spills.
