Bothered by frequent stories popping up on Instagram that you can’t even watch? Here is how you can mute someone’s story on the platform without even letting them know. So, let’s get started.
Steps to mute someone’s story on Instagram
If you want to mute someone’s story on Instagram, then these are the steps you can follow.
Directly from your story feed
- To use this method, you have to open the Instagram app on your phone.
- After that, simply look at the top of your home feed. This is the top grid on the top of your Instagram page/profile. Find the profile picture of the person whose stories you want to hide.
- Tap and hold down on their story bubble until a menu pops up from the bottom.
- Now there, select Mute from the menu options.
- Tap on Mute story to confirm your choice. This will make sure that the stories stay muted for the chosen people or pages.
From their profile page
- If you’re following this method, simply tap on the search icon or find the person’s account in your feed.
- Now go directly to their profile page.
- Tap on the Following button right beneath where they have put their bio.
- Now select Mute from the list of options.
- Switch the toggle next to Stories so it turns blue or on.
- Once you mute someone, their story moves all the way to the end of your top bar and stays faded out. It means it won’t be the first visible thing out there. Their content won’t autoplay anymore, but you can still view their stories whenever you want by scrolling over to the end of your feed.
What happens when we mute someone’s story? Do they know it?
When you mute someone’s story on Instagram, their profile picture gets moved all the way to the very end of your story bar at the top of your feed, and nothing more. You shouldn’t worry about anything. It will also appear faded out, and their posts won’t automatically play anymore as you swipe through stories and will have to do it deliberately.
The best part is that they will never be notified about it. Instagram keeps muting completely private, which doesn’t scream it out to the people who have just been muted by someone. This keeps the walls of privacy pretty thick, making it a good and reliable way to reduce some story traffic.
