The Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer beta gives players an early look at the next chapter in the famous third-person shooter series. The beta focuses on multiplayer rather than the single-player campaign.

When Is the Gears of War E-Day Beta Available?

The beta has two weekends. Early access runs from August 6 through August 10, 2026. A second weekend, open to more players, runs from August 13 through August 17.

The beta is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Steam. Cross-platform multiplayer lets supported players join the same matches.

Who Can Play the Beta?

There are several ways to get access during early access:

  • Pre-order any edition of Gears of War: E-Day.
  • Have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
  • Have an active PC Game Pass subscription.

Digital pre-orders receive beta access automatically. Physical pre-orders can involve a beta code, depending on the retailer.

For the later open weekend, access expands to players who do not have a pre-order. Xbox players still need a subscription that includes online multiplayer.

How to Download the Beta

First, sign into the correct Xbox or Microsoft account. On Steam, use the account connected to your eligible purchase.

On Xbox, search your library or the Microsoft Store for the Gears of War: E-Day Multiplayer Beta. On PC, look for the separate beta client through Steam or the Xbox app. If it does not appear, restart the launcher and check your library again.

Install it before the weekend begins. An SSD is required on PC for installation and faster loading times overall.

What Can You Play in the Beta?

The beta gives players a limited selection of multiplayer content. The biggest new feature is Horde Siege, a 12-player cooperative mode that expands the traditional Gears Horde formula.

This is a multiplayer test, so do not expect the full campaign or every launch weapon, map, and mode.

Multiple squads operate around the same battlefield, completing objectives and handling enemy threats before an intense final stage and extraction.

The beta also includes Versus multiplayer and Invasion-style encounters with powerful bosses. Content and progression are limited during testing.

What Is Horde Siege?

Horde Siege is worth trying even if you normally avoid multiplayer shooters. It rewards teamwork and encourages squads to move around the map.

Stick with your squad, revive teammates when possible, and pay attention to objectives. The mode is also a good way to learn E-Day’s movement and combat.

Tips for Your First Matches

Gears of War: E-Day keeps the series’ recognizable cover-based combat but introduces more modern movement. You can slide, vault, flank, and move between positions more freely than in older entries.

Keep these basics in mind:

  • Use cover instead of standing in the open.
  • Learn when to push and when to retreat.
  • Revive teammates whenever it is reasonably safe.
  • Watch your ammunition and reload before entering dangerous areas.
  • Learn the maps instead of relying only on weapon aim.
  • Use movement to change angles rather than moving randomly.

In Versus, patience is especially important. Gears combat rewards players who understand positioning, timing, and close-range engagements. Rushing toward an opponent can leave you exposed.

PC Requirements to Check

PC players should make sure their systems are ready before installing the beta. The published minimum specification calls for 12GB of RAM, a compatible DirectX 12 graphics card such as an RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6600, and 130GB of available SSD storage.

The recommended specification moves to 16GB of RAM, an RTX 3060 Ti or comparable GPU, and a Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-11600K class processor. Windows 11 is recommended for the higher-end configuration. Make sure you also have a stable broadband connection for online play.

Because this is a beta, performance can vary. Updating graphics drivers can help.

Do Beta Rewards Carry Over?

Yes, some beta rewards are designed to carry into the full game. Players can earn exclusive cosmetic rewards by participating and progressing during the test. Pre-order customers also receive the Exfil Dom character skin and Exfil Weapon Skin Set with the game.

The beta is not the full Gears of War: E-Day experience. The campaign, additional multiplayer content, and broader progression arrive with the full release.
