If you’re playing Borderlands 4 and working on the TASK Master side mission, one of the trickiest steps involves replacing the Power Core in an Order Pod. This action is part of a sequence of timed commands. Do it correctly, and you’ll get loot, rewards, and experience. Mess up, and you’ll have to repeat the sequence. Here’s a clear, easy‐to‐follow guide for how to replace the Power Core, and how to nail this sequence without frustration.

What Is the TASK Master Quest & Where to Start
TASK Master is a side mission you unlock after completing a few other missions: The Kairos Job, Free for the TASKing, and TASK and Ye Shall Receive.
You begin by talking to Kilo at The Launchpad, near a house in the northern section.
The mission sends you to Mirehome in the Idolator’s Noose region (southeast of The Howl). There, on top of a ruined building, you’ll find the Order Pod.
Importance of the Power Core
The Power Core is a key item in this mission. Replacing it or removing it at the right moments triggers certain parts of the puzzle sequence. It enables you to interact with the pod panel correctly so that the pod will finally open to reveal the loot inside.
How to Replace the Power Core: Step by Step
Here’s the exact method to replace (and remove) the Power Core. The sequence has many steps, and timing matters. Kilo will give you commands in order, some of which are trick steps. When she says “don’t do something”, you must not do it.
- Use your grappling hook to pull the Power Core from the top left part of the pod.
- Throw the grabbed Power Core to the top right spot, into a round slot. This is how you “replace” the Power Core.
- When commanded to remove the Power Core, you use the grappling hook to grab it from the top right slot and immediately toss it to the side.
The Full Action Sequence You Must Follow
Here are the full commands in order. You’ll need to listen to Kilo’s instructions carefully, because there are moments where you must do nothing. If you act at the wrong time, it breaks the sequence and you’ll have to start over.
- Melee (smack) the red button
- Flip the left switch
- Replace the Power Core (from top left → throw to top right)
- Pull the right lever
- Don’t flip the left switch
- Press the red button
- Melee the red button
- Shoot the panel
- Remove the Power Core (from top right → toss it away)
- Don’t pull the right lever
- Shoot the panel
- Flip the left switch
- Melee the red button (while not holding the core)
- Replace the Power Core again
- Press the red button
- Press the red button again
- Melee the red button
- Press the red button
- Remove the Power Core (from top right → toss it away)
- Flip the left switch
- Pull the right lever
- Shoot the panel
- Pull the right lever
- Flip the left switch
- Replace the Power Core one last time (top left → top right)
If you get everything right, the pod opens. Inside is a chest with rewards.
Tips to Get It Right
- Pay attention to “melee” vs “press” vs other verbs. Melee = use melee attack, press = use the usual interaction button.
- Listen carefully for “don’t” commands. When Kilo says “don’t pull the lever” or “don’t flip the switch”, wait. Do nothing until the next instruction. Mistakes here often come from reacting too quickly.
- Use the grappling hook with care. Aim properly before throwing the core so it lands in the round slot. If it misses, you’ll likely break the sequence.
- Timing matters. The commands have short timers. Try to anticipate. If you hesitate too long, the timer may expire or the sequence may reset.
