What does it mean to turn off profile views on LinkedIn?

Turning off profile views on LinkedIn turns on the “Private Mode” For you, making you a ghost browser. When you view someone’s profile, they won’t see your name, picture, or anything about your profile in any way. Instead, they will only see that an “Anonymous LinkedIn Member” or a user with “Private profile characteristics” has viewed their profile. If you want to check profiles without making a fuss about it, or simply keep a track of your competitors, then you can do that. But here’s the catch! When you turn it off, you too will not be able to see anyone’s profile on the platform. That’s the way it goes! So, if you feel the need to change it back to normal, you can visit the settings anytime.

Steps to turn off profile views on LinkedIn

If you want to go private on LinkedIn, then these steps can be used to turn off your profile views.

Go to your “Me” icon

Open the LinkedIn app on your device and click on your profile picture located in the top-right corner of your LinkedIn homepage.

Go to the Settings

From the dropdown menu that appears, select “Settings & Privacy”, and find the section that has controls over “Visibility”.

Open the Options

Under the “Visibility of your profile & network” Banner, look for
“Profile viewing options” and select it.

Choose Private Mode

You will see three choices appear on the screen. Click the bubble next to “Private mode”, and this will completely hide your identity on the platform. The setting saves automatically, and you can start browsing through any profile that you want without having to reveal your identity to anyone.

Perks of going private on LinkedIn

Going private on LinkedIn comes with some benefits!

Anonymous Research

The best part is that you can view profiles of hiring managers, competitors, or even some potential clients without them getting a notification that you were doing that.

Track the Competitors

Especially if you’re in business and want to know what your competitors are up to, this method can come in handy. However, make sure to use it well.

Avoid Unwanted Attention

You can browse for new job opportunities or do general market research without having your profile visits getting you noticed by people you don’t want to, or connection requests or messages from people you’re not ready to talk to yet, popping up on your feed.

Maintain Privacy

As noted and understood, it makes the users feel safer as it simply gives you greater control over your activity and digital footprint on the platform.

Now it’s up to you if you want to choose this setting. However, remember that you can’t view profiles either once you do so.
