Blocked the pop-ups, but missing out on the important stuff now? We hear you. Follow the guide to know how you can fix this on your iPhone. Let’s walk you through the steps to turn off the pop-up blocker. So, let’s get started.
What is a pop-up blocker on phones?
A pop-up blocker is a digital gatekeeper for your phone’s browser. It doesn’t really affect the working of your browser or your activity there but just stops the ads from opening up more than they usually open up when you do so. When you’re surfing the web, some sites try to force open extra windows or send ads over the content you’re actually trying to read, which can often lead to unintentional switching to a different web page, or even opening a malicious link. The blocker identifies these sudden, unsolicited windows and stops them from loading. It’s built into mobile browsers like Chrome or Safari, whichever you use, to keep your screen clean and protect you from accidental clicks on shady links that can be either unnecessary or harmful. It is a good way to browse in peace, without being interrupted by ads or random pop-ups.
Steps to turn off the pop-up blocker on an iPhone
We get that having a pop-up blocker active can filter through the important stuff and let you browse in the manner you want. However, this may not be something you want to be active with always, as it often hides the ads that may be relevant to you, or important at times, even. So, here are the steps that can help you fix it quickly.
Open Settings
This is your toolbox for everything. Find the concerned icon on your home screen and open it.
Find Safari
Scroll down a bit until you see the Safari app. This is usually grouped with Mail but can be somewhere else depending on the layout.
Find General Settings
Now, scroll down to the section that says “General.”
Click on the Switch
You have to look for the toggle labeled Block Pop-ups. If it’s green, it’s on. Just tap on it so it turns gray, and it fixes the problem.
Refresh your Page
Now go back to Safari and reload the website you were using. The pop-up that was otherwise blocked should now appear.
However, if you’ve turned it off and things still aren’t working, you can also check the Fraudulent Website Warning right below that toggle. This is your browser’s way to protect your privacy and data. You can take care of it there.
And that’s all! Now you can have the relevant ads pop up whenever you want them to.
