About Cursor AI

Cursor, as popular as it is, is a total game-changer if you want to skip the constant jumping back and forth between your code and a browser. Since it’s built on VS Code, it feels familiar, but the “AI-native” part is a new upgrade for the users. Instead of just simple autocomplete, you can hit Cmd+K to rewrite chunks of code or Cmd+I to let “Composer” build entire features across multiple files for you. This is simple, effective, and helps you save a lot of time. The best part is the @ symbol, which lets you point the AI to specific files or docs so it actually understands your project’s context. It makes coding less burdensome by simplifying things, rather than keeping the code all dense and heavy.

Steps to use Cursor AI

If you want to notch up your coding skills, this is a great opportunity. Let’s see how you can use Cursor AI.

Make the Switch

The first thing for you to do is to download it and import your VS Code extensions. It will only take a few moments, and you will be ready to use it.

Index Your Code

Once you open a project, let Cursor index it. This is important as it’s how the AI actually understands how your different files talk to each other. This connection counts, as it forms the basis of how the platform works.

Go for the “Inline” Edit

After you have done so, highlight a block of code and click on Cmd + K. Just type something that you would have written in a program, and you’ll watch Cursor take care of the rest.

Use the Chat

If you don’t understand what you should do next, simply click on Cmd + L. Use the @ symbol to tag specific files so the AI doesn’t give you generic advice, but something that actually works for your project and doesn’t get vague.

Further Changes

Use Cmd + I for multi-file changes, which depends on how and if you want it. It depends on the kind of prompt you give, depending on the outcome you want.

Have a Second Glance

The changes may not always be exactly the way you wanted. To ensure the best output, try to use the “diff” view to see what it changed, then hit “Accept” or “Reject.”

These are the steps that you can follow to use Cursor AI. If you are a professional or a student learning in the field of AI, then this can be a great tool that you can use.
